I thought some people may be interested in the following as it seems that the 1971 John Lennon appearance on Parkinson is to get an airing: www.windsorfestival.com/cgi-bin/winds/performances/view.pl?action=viewperformance&id=50I wonder if it will be from the colour t/r or U-Matic dub (and where it was sourced from)? I hope the BBC are interested in getting a decent copy back, more importantly! I'd love to finally see this interview in full myself.

That'll be from the u-matic dub which actually is of the colour t/r that I sent Sir Michael myself I reckon - it goes to B&W in a few places which I think were where they made master material for the clips used for the "Imagine" documentary from the same source...

Thanks for that, Mark. Do you know what John and Yoko's original copy of the 2" was supplied to them on? Was it the colour t/r or did they get a video dub on U-Matic or something similar that the t/r was made from? If so, does that copy still exist or is the t/r all there is? I wish this recording could be seen by a wider audience.
Seems like an ideal candidate for the Doctor Who restoration team to get their hands on too.

Am I the only one out there to find Parkinson an insufferable professional Yorkshireman bore?

If any manages to go to the Theatre Royal - please let me know exactly what shape the footage is in so I can let my Beatles friends on the Sulpy forum. And, of course if any of them manage to go, I will be letting the good people here at Missing Episodes know! Information - when it comes to archive material is about sharing!

Am I the only one out there to find Parkinson an insufferable professional Yorkshireman bore? No, I agree with you 100%.

Am I the only one out there to find Parkinson an insufferable professional Yorkshireman bore? He never did a great deal for me either, though I wouldn't quite describe him as you do. I can certainly think of worse interviewers over the years mind you, but his style all too often seemed to focus as much on Parky as his interviewees, which put me off him.

I can take or leave Parky. I have enjoyed quite a few of his interviews (I'm talking about pre 1982 days here) but as is usually the case, it's only as interesting as whoever is being interviewed. The Robert Mitchum encounter was a disaster in various ways, but still made compelling viewing because of Mitchums' star quality as well as amusement in seeing Parky trying to keep it going.
There is one interview I've heard about that I'd love to see and that was an encounter with Barbara Kelly. Kelly apparently decided to confront Parky about various issues, namely male chauvinism as well as blasting him for always seeming to want to get too many guests to talk about Cricket. She gave him a bit of a rough time by the sounds of it!
And don't forget how Kenneth Williams first dismissed him in his diary in 1971, describing Parky as a "North country nit!"

...meanhile, back on the subject of Parkinson/Lennon...
Bearing in mind that John & Yoko went to NY shortly after this interview, it is a 16mm t/r which they could have played with ease through a projector without bothering with all that PAL/NTSC nonsense. Though it could have been a 16mm t/r becuase that's what was requested for the "Imagine" doc when it was made as they made that riginally on film and would have requested it from the Beeb on that format if Yoko didn;t have a copy...
But whatever it was, Yoko has a u-matic of what was originally a 16 t/r which goes to B&W when the extracts used in the "Imagine" doc appear so it would appear they physically cut the original film to cut into the Imagine doc splicing back in B&W dupes of missing footage.
