Why have the BBC never chosen to show the QUATERMASS serials in their entirety? I know they are on DVD but it would be great to have a QUATERMASS night or weekend on BBC4 or something. ,

I seem to recall there was a repeat some time back in the 1980s (mid?), at a funny time. the memory might decieve, but I remember I was into the hammer horror film version and then one day watching an episode of the old black and white version of Quatermass and the pit. Might have been when I got in from school...........? Perhaps someone can shed some light on this most taxing mystery.............

There was an episode of Quatermass and the Pit shown in the 80s iirc. I think it was "Imps and Demons". I suppose the difficulty is that "Experiment" only has the first two episodes and it's obvious where the money ran out in Episode 6 of "Two". I see no, fundamental, reason why "Pit" - the RT version - couldn't be shown on BBC4 from 7pm one evening - or maybe over several nights, weeks. Auntie remade "Experiment" a few years ago with David Tennant - live.

I would imagine the beeb would wait until the DVD has been deleted for a while! Things that are out on DVD get shown - the new Dr Who, for example. The Quatermass DVD is excellent imho though.

Episode 3 of Pit (Imps & Demons) was repeated in 1986, as part of the BBC's anniversary week (I gather the wrong episode was screened). A full, proper repeat wouldn't hurt though.

Maybe its one for BBCFour as we've recently had the 1981 run of Day Of The Triffids...

The quatermass DVD is excellent, an amazing release. I still think BBC are more likely to show it on one of their less mainstream channels when it is deleted though.

Do you know hich episode they meant to show then? No idea, i'm afraid. Nigel Kneale made this comment himself in print (I forget where now though). Mind you, the episode they did show was a pretty strong one and made me long to see the whole story (something which didn't happen for quite a while)!
