It's just posible that some very brief footage of Barry Blue might survive on a chart rundown at the start of the show. Every now and then TOTP would show a a brief clip (instead of a picture) from a previous appearance. I know that occasionally happened in 1974.
The other thing I can tell you is that Barry Blue was backed by various Rubettes on his 'Dancng On A Saturday Night' appearance. John Richardson (drummer) told me last weekend that the musician playing bouzouki on the record wasn't a session musician at all. They found him in a local Greek restaurant.
When they met up at TOTP he was very excited, naively thinking he was going to be rich from his share of the royalties. John had to tell him that the session fee he'd been paid was all he was going to get.
If they ever do find the missing clip expect to see one very unhappy bouzouki player...

I thought I'd resurrect this thread after seeing the fabulous 22/11/1973 Top Of The Pops at the KAL event yesterday. Barry Blue was seen dressed in 'white' performing 'Do You Wanna Dance'. I spotted a familiar face on drums and it was none other than John Richardson from The Rubettes.

The TOTP performance of "Dancing On A Saturday Night" from 24/08/73 exists in black & white. Interesting in that Barry sings live over the top of the original recording which plays in the background. Not sure if the band guys are from The Rubettes though - the Bouzouki player is certainly there. Far superior to the existing performance from "Hits A Go Go" (or was it Spotlight) released on a BR Music compile some years back in which the audio has been redubbed over the live performance. I have never sighted the performance of this on German "Disco" yet it is known to definitely exist - it is edited out of every single repeat that the show has ever had? Not sure why.

Barry Blue does appear very briefly(as was suggested by Mark)in the Top of the Pops chart rundown from 15th August 1974.He was at number 26 in the chart. What single would this be?He's wearing his familiar blue top with tassles.Would this be from a wiped performance??

Barry wore a white jacket on the surviving 'Do You Wanna Dance' TOTP clip. The rest of the band wore blue outfits. John told me recently that the guitarist and bass player on that appearance were in a band called 'Smile' Barry came to a gig at the Palladium a few years back. He was great fun and certainly had no regrets about his 'Blue' persona. He recalled driving to a gig and overtaking his backing band (Rubettes) who were #1 in the charts and being chaffeur driven in a limo to the venue. He was much more successful as a producer ('Boogie Nights') and now runs a library company providing music for films and television.
