Just now I read a Dutch news item about a astronomer's fanclub in The Hague. It turns out one of the members bought his own ampex machine in 1969 and recorded the most important events in space exploration on 1" ampex tapes! This was an off air recording from the Dutch coverage of the moon landing. But still impressive that he bought his own ampex!

But surely the important thing is that he would have been recording the same satellite pictures that the BBC received and broadcast.
Because I remember reading at the time that they were the first to get the TV in Europe, and were responsible for feeding the pictures to the rest of the continent.
Colin.
