Dont know if anyone else here saw the article on Hancocks Half Hour yesterday (Tuesday 16th). It was very small and easy to miss but says six missing episodes of the radio shows were found recently and four will be released shortly on cd. Anyone have any further details on this?

If it's the same article it's TV soundtracks which have been handed in by the Hancock Society- they've had them for ages. I have some of them myself!
Nice to see them getting a release, hopefully better cleaned up than 'Blackboard Jungle'.

I saw a newspaper article about these on Monday too (TV soundtracks, yes). What's the general quality like? The article made reference to them being recorded by the "mike against the TV speaker" method so I was wondering! Obviously good enough for CD anyway.

I actually put up a message about this in the TV section, but never mind.
The episodes vary in quality. Two of them are excellent, two are okay and two are pretty bad. The first two to come out are 'The Flight of the Red Shadow' and 'The Wrong Man'. They're already up on Amazon and have been on pre-order for a while. They'll actually be in the high street in a few weeks.
BBC Audio have been looking into a number of off-air audio recordings recently and hopefully there might be more in the future. Things will obviously depend on how well these ones sell.
If you want to hear a clip from one of the episodes, try going to the BBC website and clicking on the listen again function for Monday's 'PM' programme on Radio 4. There was a clip and an interview with Galton and Simpson.
I hope everyone enjoys the CDs when they come out:

Thanks for that. I've just had a listen to PM. It's also possible that earlier TV episodes were also recorded in this way, of course. I've moved this thread over to the TV section as it seems more appropriate there.
I'm surprised the BBC aren't releasing all of them at once rather than in dribs and drabs. Do you know the titles of the six?

The Wrong Man/The Flight of the Red Shadow (due for release in August according to http://www.bbcshop.com)
The Beauty Contest / The Horror Serial (scheduled for November.)
The other two episodes are Underpaid! or Grandad's SOS and Almost Matrimony.

That's right. The sleeve notes will explain the situation more clearly, but there are sensible reasons for not releasing them all at once.

It's complicated, but it's to do with getting them digitally cleaned up to a reasonable standard before they are released, rather than rush-releasing something that is practically inaudible.
All the episodes needed some kind of digital re-mastering.

Well I'm pleased they are doing all they can to release these cleaned up. I remember purchasing the Dr Who titles Evil Of The Daleks and Underwater Menace years ago and been very disapointed when I heard them because the sound quality was lousy. It's nice to have something rare but I'd rather it was in a listenable or watchable state...

Spotted a further forthcoming Hancock cd by accident via find-cd - it appears to be 2 'missing' radio shows - Sid James' Dad and The Diet, but from memory they look to be 2 which've been circulating for some time in poor quality. Anybody know anything about the release, which is also due in November? www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1408427583/mffindbook-21I've also had the chance to listen to the first of the missing tv episode cds, and have to say that although it's a joy to listen to any 'new' Hancock, I was a tad disappointed by the quality of the sound. I'm slightly concerned about the November release based on Charles' comments that these were the 2 best quality recovered episodes, when to my mind the quality of the 1st release is about as low as thay can go before they become too poor to enjoy. Is it just me, or does anybody else have thoughts on this....? Cheers! Paul

OK, something's afoot! The BBC Shop has just cancelled my pre-order for the 2nd HHH missing tv episodes cd -
"I would like to advise that unfortunatley the item you ordered ‘Hancock: "Lost" TV Eps: Horror Serial/Beauty Contest - 9781408426838 ‘ has been cancelled and is know longer available through the BBC Shop.
Another item has been released which is titled ‘Hancock-The-Lost-Radio-Episodes-Sid-James-Dad, The-Diet’ this is priced at £4.65 and is a 47% discount of the RRP.
I apologise for the inconvenience caused. It is not the intention of the BBC to cause trouble in cancelling orders and not releasing items."
Anybody have any more info.....?
