Does anyone have any broadcast details for the several early seventies comedians Ryan and Ronnie made for the BBC?
As far as I can recall they did one for BBC wales, circa 1972. There was then a second, around 1974 which ran in a tea time slot with English language, because the duo was proving so popular with English viewers depsite their first show being Welsh spoken.
Do any of the shows exist ?

I think a few do (the English language ones) as b/w t/rs only. I haven't checked that for a while so don't quote me on it. I used to watch the Welsh version at lunchtimes. The English version, which came a couple of years later, was very similar in format and characters. I've no idea if any of the Welsh version survives though.

I believe some Welsh ones do survive, there was a documentary about them on one of the Welsh channels a few years back with some clips ( a stage show was recently done about them - which has subsequently become a film).

S4C have shown at least one (Welsh) Ryan a Ronnie from 1972, so at least one exists complete as a good quality colour VT recording (based on what little I saw of it anyway).

Thanks for that, David. It would seem that the original Welsh series might enjoy better preservation (colour VT) than the more widely seen English-speaking version (b/w t/r). I understand BBC Wales has a separate archive from the general BBC one, so it would be interesting to know how their earlier output ('60s / '70s) fares in terms of survival rate.
