I was just wondering if anyone here knew of any good articles on early channel 4 comedy shows. I used to watch them as a kid, some of its a bit hazy, some are very vivdly remembered. Ive done some research to try and determine the archival status of some of the material with no great success. I would be very interested to know if anyone here has any links to any good articles on the very early channel 4 comedy shows. Thanks in advance

You know, even though I was an adult when CH 4 kicked off, I can remember very little of it. Strange, as I can remember back to the early 60s when I was a kid. I have extremely vivid memories of both BBC and ITV shows from back then. My early memories of CH 4 are just of Brookside beginning its run, and there being loads of effing and blinding on it. The channel still tends to be very left wing, back then, it was VERY VERY Left wing. The comedy as I remember it tended to be very militant, alternative stuff. Ben Elton, that kind of thing. I think I may have some old VHS tapes somewhere with early CH 4 Links, idents, continuity etc. If theres anything worth mentioning, Ill let you know via the forum.

I have VHS tapes of Chance in a Million, with idents and continuity and also episode of The Avengers. I still think Chance in a Million is one of the funniest sitcoms that CH4 have ever produced.

... Who Dares Wins, Absolutely, Pushing Up Daisies - very good comedy shows outside of The Saturday Night & Friday Night Live to whcih I think Eric is remembering. Channel 4 probably still have them all, if not the rights to re-show them as those rights would know belong to the production companies...
