Weird, I have contacted EinsFestival two days ago with almost the same questions. "Copyright reasons" in case of the Rolling Stones is a bit vague. I was told that arte presumably had a higher budget for their project. Rolling Stones would have been beyond the financial limitations of EinsFestival. I'm really wondering why they have chosen so many episodes with Glitter and the Stones considering the vast amount of shows available from the BBC archives. Cuts could have easily been avoided by selecting other episodes. I have also asked about this Shirley Bassey issue from the episode of April 29th 1971. It's an error in the documents of the BBC. Together with the tape the BBC has sent an incorrect list. EinsFestival didn't have enough time to check the tape's content. That's why the performer lineup in the TV guides included Shirley Bassey. I was explicitly asking about it and they told me that there is no "hidden" Shirley Bassey performance at the end of the tape after the complete show. And btw I'm wondering why nobody ever noticed that there is no song from Shirley Bassey called "You don't care no more".

Apparently Shirley recorded a song called "Excuse Me" which contains the line "you don't care no more".
Also, as has already been pointed out, the performance of "Breakfast In bed" definitely exists as it was shown on TOTP2.

Last night's show was in black & white, so although this must have been once in colour, it was preserved on what looks like a 16MM black & white film copy (a telecine recording) that has been transfered to videotape, also the sound is not up to the standards of 1973's TV broadcasting. Well, I will not complain about it, I'm happy that it's there. Regards, Oliver.

Wonder if thats the same song Kiki Dee recorded Neil? Apparently Shirley recorded a song called "Excuse Me" which contains the line "you don't care no more". Also, as has already been pointed out, the performance of "Breakfast In bed" definitely exists as it was shown on TOTP2.

I've noticed that they are not repeating the 27th December 1973 edition. Anyone know a reason for the BBC not suppling this one? I assume it exists in broadcast quality as the only repeated clip 'Wizzard - Ball Park Incident' looks pretty good to me. It's almost certainly because that ed is full of lots of little clips from past TOTP (it is a 10-year special) - it would thus take much more time and money to clear it.

You were right about the 25/12/1973 show, Gary Glitter has been edited out, thus the show is only 40 minutes long instead of 45. !! I agree with Steve, lots of the stuff on the show is from the 60's and that will cost a little fortune and it will be hard to clear in terms of copyright, but I can always do another phone call to Eins Festival and ask them. Regards, Oliver.

The Beat Club posts that followed on from here have now been given their own thread, just to keep this one on the topic of TOTP...

The Beat Club posts that followed on from here have now been given their own thread, just to keep this one on the topic of TOTP... Ahem.....sorry Guys, Im guilty of kicking it all off. A casual mention of BEATCLUB spread like a monster out of control. Guilty as charged......Ill sentence myself to 12 strokes on the bottom with a 1969 rolled up copy of the Radio Times. Either that, or a 1975 LOOK-IN with David Essex on the cover.

Quite a shame, really, I wonder what happened to 15/08/1974 ?? There is a gap !! Oh, and BTW, I think that edition 08/08/1974 might again be edited, because of The Rolling Stones !! Oliver.

What a big surprise !!! I just skiped through last nights TOTP recording of the episode from 08/08/1974 and the Rolling Stones were left in. Question: Why was "Brown Sugar" then edited out of the TOTP episode from 27/12/1971 (Top Of The Pops 71) Regards, Oliver.

15/08/74 possibly wasnt shown because it was presented by the osmonds and would have to be cut to ribbons of links
