I would be nice if they could also restore the cuts made for GG. After all, if they can allow convicted paedophile Jonathan King to be included in the repeats (29th January 1970 for sure, and probably others). This revisionist attitude is absolutely ridiculous. Mr Gadd was very present in the 1970's, and his absence is very noticeable in these repeats.

I don't think there would be anyone reading this that couldn't feel utter disgust and contempt at what this person has been convicted of - BUT - he is part of the early 70's music history - like it or lump it - he's there - and it seems ludicrous to edit out material with him in because of what's happened in recent years.... To me, it's a little like the Only Fools and Horses edits made to the original 1981/82 episodes where the dreaded "p" word has been edited out. It really, really gets my goat. Ok, so nowadays, naturally, it's not acceptable (and of course maybe back then as well you could argue) - BUT -again - it's all part of history of the particular era and seems stupid that it's now edited out. It SHOULD be left in, if only to demonstrate how far we've come and how unacceptable it is nowadays.... Rant over!

Regarding Gary Glitter - one thing that has been conveniently overlooked by the idiotic tabloid media in their witch hunt of him - is that, in between being arrested in 1997 and convicted in 1999 Paul Francis Gadd in a rare moment of astuteness SOLD HIS COPYRIGHT for both his future song-writing and performance royalties on his past recording for a six-figure sum! Of course, this means that playback of his music is not earning him ANYTHING as he sold it on! (not that it nothers the leading supermarket chains if last xmas's piped R'N'R-XMAS are anything to go by)
(post edited by moderator)
I found the german edits of GG performaces astonishing as I don't believe that other countries have any real interest in the endless media pursuit of Gadd as it is our own moronic tabloids and their bovine readership that has dictated he is Public Enemy Number One, and I understood (by the French willingness to show GG) that this silly obsession was confined to these ridiculous shores.

There is no real need to give retrospective bans to either Glitter or King (who has always prefessed his innocence of what he convicted of, and who has been granted a future hearing at the European Court of Human Rights - something not given lightly), the actual reasoning behind such censorship collapses when we see that the music of a convicted murderer (albeit one who created but did not sing on his records) is perfectly morally acceptable! Maybe Gary Glitter should have just murdered someone instead of looking at nasty pictures?

Thing is, if Glitter is edited out of TOTP editions that are repeated on channels such as this, it effectively means that we the public as a whole NEVER get the chance to see those shows complete again; the BBC won't repeat them on terrestrial TV or release them on DVD (and most people won't be in the privileged position of having their own private copies). It's revisionism and slightly sinister in itself.

It's revisionism and slightly sinister in itself. And even more sinister when you factor in Gadd would not actually receive any royalties or fees anyway - pure '1984'

I certainly don't want to turn this into a 'Glitter-Bash' fellow forumers because there is a lot of stupidity and general ignorance bandied about when it comes to his career but Chris I must disagree mate when you say "Maybe Gary Glitter should have just murdered someone instead of looking at nasty pictures?" He did far worse than that Chris (and I'm not refering to 'R+R Christmas' either) I also whole heartedly agree with the 'Only fools..' reference earlier. The edits on the show from the BBC now boil my blood They also (would you believe? ?) edited out Uncle Albert's classic 'bald' joke when Del's old Aussie based mate returns from the toilet with his wig removed and says 'I'm not actually bald' to which Albert says 'Well it's a helluva partin'..' ;D A classic one-liner edited out of BBC repeat history in case it offends BALD BLOODY PEOPLE??!! One line from Ricky Gervais on Comic Relief would offend a nation's worth of people more than that line.....idiocy but a sad state of current affairs guys. Thomas.

Chris I must disagree mate when you say "Maybe Gary Glitter should have just murdered someone instead of looking at nasty pictures?" He did far worse than that Chris I know we're straying waaay off-topic here - but I'm fascinated to know - What has he done worse than murder? As far as I'm aware, other than being allegedly an insufferable prima donna for much of his life as well as a sleaze, he's been convicted twice - once for basically looking at lots of nasty pictures, and once in a country were justice can be bought for the price of a round of drinks. That anyone thinks this is 'worse than' willful murder suggests we really have strayed down the wrong path as a society. If he had been found guilty of first-hand child abuse in this country (or another country with a half-credible justice system) I might see your point - but with the 12-years-and-counting media witch-hunt inflicted upon him there's no doubt in my mind if he had done anything of the sort it would have been brought to light by now. Gadd's most serious crime as far as the mighty media is concerned (if the likes of Gary Bushell & Kelvin McKenzie were to be honest with themselves for once) was a shameless courting of the tabloid press for 20-odd years. That is why he has been chased around the globe. I could go on - but this is a TOTP thread on a Missing Episodes forum so it isn't the time or place to expand further, other than to say society seems to need re-educating on this emotive topic in order to regain some much-needed perspective.

Sorry, I know this is off topic here, but are you being serious? Is this really true? I ABSOLUTELY PAUL.....!!?? I've seen it twice in the past 5 years (once on the early evening Saturday repeats on BBC1) and it was cut. I wrote about it on a comedy forum and no-one gave a stinky plops. I was finding my way towards a real forum who'd understand my frustration i.e here!! T.
