This may be like looking for a "lost" Troughton episode these days but for years I have had vivid memories of a children's series from the late 1960s(?) a major plot point of which involved a door at the end of a corridor in an old house which featured in at least one of its cliffhangers. It has stuck with me ever since. I think it was on Anglia.
Any ideas?

Could be from the Adventures of Sexton Blake ? who was a fictional early 20th century detective, found in comics at one time I think ?
anyway the TV series was a thoroughly well made adventure series for children with plenty of cliff hangers.Made by Thames & Rediffusion. The hardworking Lawrence Payne and his side kick starred in 80 odd episodes over 3 years .
How many exist today ? 1

Used to love that. Roger Foss played Tinker, his sidekick. Theres also a recent thread that mentions The Trollenburg Terror. In the film version ( also known as The Crawling eye ) didnt Laurence Payne have a part in that too. I got a cheap copy of that classic movie on EBAY.

Thanks. I don't think it was Sexton Blake. From memory it had a supernatural theme and involved children. It wasn't The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe. 1967/68 or so?

Escape into Night? Five years late but children, supernatural and ITV.

Was Escape Into Night five years later or earlier than my guess of 1967/68? If it involved a large house/long corridor then it could be it as we didn't have a colour TV until 1974 which replaced the beloved Ecko in the "telly room".I certainly saw it in monochrome.

Can't remember anything about it to help job your memory, but could it be the Southern Television serial Mystery Hall - shown autumn 1967?

Mystery Hall sounds as if it could be it as it definitely featured a large house/mansion and some of my most vivid memories are from TV of the late 60s (7-10 which is the best age for the sense of wonder - Fall Out was a blast! - although I actually remember the JFK assassination and the first episode of a certain long running serial that was delayed by ten minutes as a result....)
Presumably it no longer exists?

Shame it's gone but not unexpected. Even if it turned up I doubt I'd find it anywhere as memorable as I did then but certainly The Tomb Of The Cybermen was as I remembered it (bar the dummy Cybercontroller & the Kirby wires but then they wouldn't have registered that much on the Ecko that was our box of delights) so you never know....

Have been hoping that material of this nature sees some sort of release,as have seen archive websites posting selections of their holdings online ( TopPop NL for example). Would think if any material from series such as these, where little material survives to warrant a full DVD release. However, material such as this does often crop up as extras. So, as Adrian says,"So you never know".Heres hoping something can be found from this fondly remembered childhood tv series.
Cheers,Lance.

Have been hoping that material of this nature sees some sort of release. 'Escape into Night' is about to be released on DVD in the UK. The colour master tapes are long gone but the series survives as b/w 16mm film recordings.

It would be good to see some of the quality childrens' drama ITV used to produce. It does nothing now unless I'm mistaken - or you count things like Primeval. BBC isn't that much better either. Even accepting things have changed it's a same ITV is in such a parlous state - not that many of the older ones were much cop but it doesn't seem to be doing any situation comedy now either...
