I wonder if anyone can help. In 1971 probably in early summer BBC1 showed a few programmes very late on, I think, Thursday night. They were about 20 minutes long and featured an old geezer who would show how to catch a different species of fish on each programme. I seem to remember he looked a bit like Fyffe Robertson, but my memory is probably playing me up there. His name might have been Bernard something - equally it may not have been......I think the Beeb was just using it as a brief filler, because there were only about three episodes shown (one of which I remember featured the grayling), and it may well have been a repeat of something shown years before.
So, there's a challenge for you. The funny thing is, I can remember the tune perfectly - a lovely relaxing Percy Grainger-ish piece. Not a hope in hell of the programme having survived I would bet.

Thanks Craig - that certainly looks to be it. I must admit I'm impressed, not only by your rising to the challenge, but also by my own feat of memory in providing sufficient clues for the sleuth to do his work.....
I wonder if the programmes have survived. Since the site you quote refers to them as 'films' I suppose they may have done. Perhaps I should put my whistling rendition of the tune on the Web.
