Thinking about extras for forthcoming Goodies DVDs, I'm given to understand that a number of the "Engelbert and the Young Generation" shows (which featured the Goodies) are lost to the BBC. Does anyone know if the German co-producer ZDF may retain copies?
Cheers, Jim

The only complete edition existing at the BBC is 27/02/72, which the Goodies material in is duplicated in "A Collection Of Goodies" TX 24/9/72.
I wouldn't be surprised if ZDF has the lot on pristine colour VT, It's only us Brits that seem so zealous with the junking machine...

ISTR that the trio appeared on the actual Engelbert shows on some occasions having a bit of banter with Gerry before the filmed sequences... these are all lost in the mists of time and the juning machine - unless anyone here knows for sure which shows they appeared "live" on?
If one is the surving episode - this would make a nice extra on a DVD in the run in to the film.

Andrew Pixley wrote an article for The Goodies fan newsletter The Clarion & Globe detailing the Englebert series, with reference to some of the sketch links. I don't recall them being transcribed but it's possible that the Written Archives have scripted material. I've not checked myself.
The surviving show is grim, by the way. Well, typical of that sort of show actually - relentless dance routines, an awful bit of stand up by Engelbert and a Goodies clip inexplicably in the middle of the show. A Collection Of Goodies, on the other hand, is well worth tracking down.

And I should add that Network were sent a very long list of possible extras when it first became known that they had the rights. Letters were sent by the Goodies fan club, SOTCAA and The Mausoleum Club, and if anything volume 1 left us gobsmacked as to what had been unearthed.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes indeed, I was also pleasantly surprised by the extras on the DVD, and it's good to hear there's a lot of other possibilities for future issues. "Funky Gibbon" and "Black Pudding Bertha" from Shang-a-Lang maybe... J
