recently saw a rerun of a 'Rice Krispies' advert. This was either late 50s or early 60s and when they portrayed the cartoon Pixies 'Sanp Crackle and Pop' on packets and T.V. adverts.
I remembered how this was still current 1962 - 64. In those days they had just introduced the Kellogs 'VARIETY' mini pack compendiums with different cereals. I would pick one and my older Brother and Sister others. Only a few in those days were nice and when you got to the last cereal there were things like 'All Bran' and mini shredded wheat type things.
The main 'nice' variety packs were Sugar stars; Frosties; Ricycles; Rice Krispies and Corn flakes. In those days they didn't contain coco pops. Our bottom cupboards were packed with multicoloured plastic tupperware plates and cups and 'Jolly Green Giant Niblets' tins.
Some of the adverts appear to survive though the ones I've seen are probably 1958 - 60. Around 1965 I seem to remember though 'Tony the Tiger' and adverts were continued for 'Frosties' they turned attention to TV related merchandise tie ins like 'THUNDERBIRDS'; 'CAPTAIN SCARLET' with plastic toys; and later Jon pertwee period DR WHO.
I clearly recall cut outs on the back of OAT CRUNCHIES (Nabisco product) of Knights in armour and 3D ship scenes. The latter was later about 1970.
Since most of the various cereal ads were U.S. produced with added English voice overs I wonder that most may survive?
And I wondered if any for 'Oat Crunchies'?
Any good sources recommended or further info?

Great memory you have John yes it was Shredded Wheat Mark from around 1969 I remember that shredded wheat song but thought it was about 1970? In the one I remember its a young couple having a picnic with family in fade shots. The male is playing a folk guitar singing the tune. I remember Cornflakes was always boring and generic compared to other cereal publicity. An offscreen hand pouring a jug of milk onto cornflakes in a striped bowl then placing the packet beside it? There was a sort of Rooster emblem on the box. In the early 70s they injected a bit more swing. Recall them using I think a song from hair 'Let the sunshine in' and another about 'sunshine day'. An eager family immersed in sunlight behind were seen running to the table to eat the cornflakes. I've seen a surviving example of what I recall as the 1964 - 66 campaign for either 'sugar puffs' or sugar smacks'. There were two versions. The original was U.S. generated probably why it survives and though seen on B+W was glossy looking like technicolor. A real grizzly bear (!) would be seen coming either from a copse of trees or a tent in a park. I recall a boy and girl from a picnic with blanket eating the cereal then the bear joins in and I think they stroked it looking happy (!!) There was a later version where a whole family picnicked; or possibly a Scout troupe. When the Bear came out they all ran off and it ate their sugar puffs.

The only two cereal adverts i can clearly remember from my childhood is for Sugar Puffs with Henry McGee and the slogan "Tell 'em about the honey, mummy!"
The other must be from 75-78 for Frosties which had a Tony Blackburn type DJ that said "It's 6.45 and i'm coming alive, here comes the latest hit!"
I wish the Tube of You had them on their!

Fascinating. Related to the Joe 90 appearance, does anyone know how many ads in all were made over the years featuring the various Gerry Anderson characters? I can recall ice lolly commercials using Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds / Lady Penelope & Parker (Zoom, Fab, Sky Ray) in the mid '60s. Possibly Stingray too. I presume earlier and later characters were also used to advertise products though.

I'm very interested in 'Oat Crunchies' the period probably 1960 - 70.
The company was probably Quaker?

A couple of mid 70's Kelloggs ones for you...which have the "Sunshine" Theme... hub.tv-ark.org.uk/dsplus/m.php?p=kelloggscornflakes1976.rmwww.mediafire.com/?ymjwiymthtw(The jingle on this one's being sung by Tony Christie!) Also check out the Queen-esque jingle for the Weetabix ad! I hadn't seen this in years until it appeared here... - hub.tv-ark.org.uk/dsplus/m.php?p=weetabix_1981.rm
