Hi Chris - Do you know if the Network releases were complete runs of consecutive episodes for each year or just selections? From memory, I think they were both: each box had a selection from a year or decade, although there were a few consecutive eps in some of the runs. I think the '60s decade set had, for example, a few eps from ep.1 onwards and then jumped forward a year or so.

The 60's box had a disc devoted to each year with a selection of episodes cherry picked from across the year. Not sure how many consecutive shows got used though.
I also seem to recall that ITV3 or some channel like that, showed the first 12 episodes one after the other at Christmas... must have been in the late 90's. They should do something similar again in future picking a particular batch or storyline from different years, so it would get episodes not yet on DVD out in the open to be seen and enjoyed again.

I bought the 60s and 70s boxed sets as soon as they were released, and thoroughly enjoyed them, but the one thing that being able to watch the first 16 episodes in sequence (when they were shown on Granada Plus over one Christmas) taught me, was that I enjoyed the continuing story so much more than just "highlights". There are always major and minor storyline threads, and the only way the basic soap principle of keeping the vierwer hooked truely works is by watching them without gaps. I've read that when Granada Plus started their continuous run of repeats there was a definite possibility that they might actually start from the very beginning, instead of from the early 70s, too bad that they didn't. And as I've said previously what makes it especially frustrating for someone like me, is that (a) it the first 12 years or so that I never saw at the time and (b) those episodes are full of many of the (still) best-loved characters in their absolute prime. You'd think with 4 ITV channels, they could find a slot for it somewhere.
