I'm raising query again to the status of the pre 1975 CORONATION ST archive.
Previously I mentioned an episode I recall well from 1973; at the end of this one Elsie Tanner got knoecked down by a car and was seen lying in the road with a trickle of blood from the corner of her mouth.
Recall it was a shock episode and disturbed me.
I also recently recalled a sad scene in an episode in which viewers were reminded of the Actor who died that played 'Annie Walker's Husband.
Actress Doris Speed in Character was shown sighing and looking to one side remembering him; and I'd forgotten him but recalled as he was shown in an overlay playback of an old T/R.
The only episode scene I recall specifically I've seen again was Ernie Bishops first scene c. 1968 as a Press photographer.

I alway thought that Coronation street was virtually complete bar one or two early episodes as that is one programme Granada cared about

I notice they always seem to pull random clips from it on various shows - there was one featuring Minnie Caldwell referring to that Chubby Cliff Richard from 1961 on last weeks Movie Connections.. apparently it forced Cliff on a diet!

I think i'm right in saying that the only true gap is a short run of episodes from the latter part of 1967, although I think there are a few from around 1973 (?) where non-broadcast standard copies (e.g. U-matic or Phillips?) only seem to exist. Many of the '60s eps are on mixed formats though (mainly t/r but there seem to be a few from the mid '60s on VT). That's the most up to date info I have on it. Can anyone enlighten more?

About 5 years ago a reliable source told me a few episodes were damaged beyond viewing. Only a handful.

Yes... that does appear to be the case. They are ALL there at Granada bar several episodes from around December 1967. I'm pretty sure the missing episodes were once listed two or three years back on this forum.... I just remember they were generally from December 1967.

Every single episode except the All Star Comedy Carnival inserts exist. Due to strikes some eps were given production numbers but never made. Everything made, survives.

Thanks for that, Chris. Very good news. So there are no missing eps from '67 or non-broadcast standard ones after all then?

All episodes are in broadcast formats, film, digibeta etc.
The two dry run pilots with different casts were never kept as is often the case.

Ah, thanks Chris. That's good news as for a long time it looked as if a few were missing. As it's coming from Kal, we can take that info as being totally reliable.

When we made Raiders of the Lost Archives we were planning to launch a search for the missing episodes, and we checked with the archives extensively. Not one was missing, gaps in tx dates were due to 1960s strikes that affected production, all are safe :-)

While it's great to hear that they all exist, it's not much use if they are never going to be shown or released. When you consider that so many of the Street's most fondly-remembered characters were there from the very beginning (Elsie, Dennis, Ena, Minnie and Martha... and of course the legendary Annie Walker), it's a travesty that 12 or more years of these characters remains unseen on British TV since they were first transmitted. If only one of the (many) ITV channels could show them from the very beginning. Presumably clearance fees are just too expensive.

I think Corrie has done rather well actually.
Three box sets from Network.
A range of videos released back in the 1980s.
Granada Plus ran many old episodes in their early days.
I don't think it likely that we'll ever see a complete re-run from 1961 onwards but I'm sure we'll see more in the future. I know Network had more plans for the series at one stage.
