I know a lot of people won't like it, but I must object to the postings by those who can't differentiate between missing televison and Doctor Who.
There are several threads that make little or no sense what so ever if you don't realise that the writer is refering to Dr Who.
Please put 'Dr Who' in the subject line - or at least somewhere in the message - so that it is clear what it is about. For those interested, I'm sure it would be appreciated, and those who don't care a jot about Dr Who would find it very useful, I can assure you.
Why do so few people seem to understand that Dr Who represents such a miniscule proportion of missing TV as to almsot insignificant? I have no problem with people wanting the missing Dr Who episodes recovered, but please stop ramming it down our throats. It's hardly as if Dr Who is under-represented in the archives, or ignored by missing-episode hunters.
Perhaps there could be another board for Dr Who missing episodes and the attendant loonies, and this one could get back to the standard it maintained a year or two ago.

IT seems the decline and fall of this site is a recurring topic at the moment, which in itself may be a symptom of the said decline. If I was taking this side I would look at such things as my own posting on establishing a missing radio list, which failed to excite any real response. I could also look at the Anthony Ainley posting and wonder why we need to know, because this IS a missing episode forum and I'm afraid that there are no other known copies of Mr Ainley in the hands of collectors. But I can see the relevance of such postings, because, after all, we are all interested in classic television/radio and everything concommitant to them, including the sad departure of former stars. If we start becoming pedants and attacking the interests of members then we only encourage people to A, attack back and B, dismiss the site altogether. So maybe it would be a good idea to have a strictly speaking non-relevant sub-forum to accomodate these types of posting. And maybe it would also be an idea to think of other ways to further improve the (im my opinion) excellent site and thus facilitate the recovery of more seemingly lost gems. Because, at the end of the cliche, isn't that why we are here?  |

Quite agree. I'm a fully-paid-up Wholigan (as well as being interested in missing TV in general), but I'm finding the volume of off-topic, Who-related threads on here to be quite annoying.
Any chance that us fans can make it clear when topics are Who related? Or, even better, can the moderators split off a separate Missing Who episodes forum (a la T.O.T.Ps). That way we could leave the serious film collectors in peace.

...and the attendant loonies... That started out as a perfectly sensible, well thought out, rational post only to be spoiled by the quote above. I've posted a number of times in the past couple of months saying exactly what you've said but there really is no need for the blanket labelling of DW fans. |

Lets leave this subject here, yeah? There's a lovely new forum now for the Dr Who fans so I have no need to get so grumpy any more! |

I'm a big WHO fan who would of course love to see all the missing episodes recovered, but I fully agree with this thread. I think WHO fans should consider themselves extremely lucky to have so MUCH surviving when far more important shows are missing entirely. It would also be nice if most telerecorded material put out on disk or tape could have the VIDfire treatment as it seems unfair that only the Who stuff has it and much more worthy material doesn't (but I understand it's down to cost and time, as always ...).

Perhaps, part of the excitement about the recovery of a Doctor Who episode is that there is a good cnance that it will actually see the light of day on video.
It's great when an episode of Z Cars or Adam Adamant or At Last the 1948 Show is recovered, but those will probably just sit in an archive until doomsday. If we're lucky they may be removed from storage for a BFI screening, which the many people won't be able to attend.
Speaking of 'At Last..." what happened to the DVD/Video release that was hinted at years ago? I'd read a rumor somewhere that David Jason was holding up the release of 'Do Not Adjust Your Set', but nothing on 'At Last the 1948 Show'.

David, your points are valid regarding people's excitiment over Dr Who recoveries, but that's not what - speaking personally of course - is objectionable.
What I object to is that some people who have the enthusiasm and will to attempt (or at least talk about attempting) to locate missing programmes, only ever consider the task in the context of Dr Who. To me it is ignorance of the most parochial sort.
Of course, they never will do anthing more than phone up a TV station and annoy people, but I just detest the fact that, if something more was on in their power, they would waste the opportunity enquiring after the few things that personally interest them.
I really shouldn't get so uptight about it I know, it's only my own enthusiasm for the entire spectrum of missing (and not so missing) archive programmes (and not just TV either) that makes me care so much.

That's what I want to know too! These things are suggested and then we never hear any more of them. A 1948 Show release is almost too good to be true. Some of us have been waiting a long time for something like this. It's a quality show that deserves wider accessibility.
