The bad news is, it now only includes the Thames produced episodes which have somewhat tatty production values compared to the old ABC ones IIRC. However there is a shine out gem there and that is Freddie Jones as Sweeney Todd.

Yes, it's fine series and i'll be getting it (good cover too). However, it's a tragedy that the ABC episodes weren't kept as that was the superior version, to my mind, in terms of mood, atmosphere and format. This Thames version is a different series in all but name. I was hoping that the two surviving ABC episodes would be included as extras on this set but I expect (as ever with anything owned by (C)anal+ ) there are two many copyright hurdles to make it worthwhile.

Not the ideal release, or even the best possible one, but still an essential purchase for me. How do these episodes compare with the later BBC series 'Supernatural'?

It is definitely a great pity that the ABC material will not be included. But then I guess I have to state that the 'cup is half full' for me it will be nice to get the rest of the episodes, varying quality though they are. Theres definitely a few good ones in there
