Does anyone know the archive status of this BBC favourite of mine.A quiz devoted to classical music presented by pianist Joseph Cooper, and panelists Richard Baker,Robin Ray,Patrick Moore and Joyce Grenfell. The BBC did broadcast a 1972 programe on the death of Joseph Cooper about 4 years ago but how many have survived?.I think it ran from 1966-1981?.

God, was it running as late as 1981? Truly that programme was a relic of a bygone age. It would be incomprehensible for a programme so unashamedly highbrow as that to be given airtime today. I'm smiling to myself now thinking what my kids would say if confronted by the silent keyboard....

Was Roger Race "My Music" then?
Who were the regulars on this prog, and how long did it run for?
I seem to interchange them in my recollections.

yes plenty in bbc archive - steve race presenter - title them from 'facade' You must have been indulging yourself a bit too much at Belshazzar's knees-up, Sir William; as one of the guests on the programme you should have remembered that, as Henry said, Joseph Cooper was the presenter and not Steve Race. Every programme featured an appearance by a distinguished musical guest - I wonder if there's a list of them which can be accessed. In fact the programme wasn't particularly "highbrow" - it just seems so in comparison with the unremitting dross appearing on our TV nowadays.

wasn't 'my music' just a continuation of 'face the music'? you weren't on either Mr Tyrwhitt-Wilson! (except on prewar tv).

I hadn't realised that the thread had changed from one show to another, Sir William. I don't recall seeing a show called "My Music" but then I would have considered it very infra dig. to watch a programme hosted by a jazz pianist. Do you mean to say that they even had the cheek to use your "Popular Song" as the theme tune for that?

No, Sir hold on to your bowler - it was another musical piece. The last time I bought a popular recording was a 78rpm of 'Who?' by Jerome Kern. If you can name the surviving BBC film recording in which I mention this, you win a special prize.

wasn't 'my music' just a continuation of 'face the music'? No, it started on the wireless as a musical version of the popular panel game 'My Word', though I think it may have outlasted the parent show.

Hope the prize isn't a copy of that dreary epic about Wagner in which a famous composer appears as King Friedrich August II. Who?-No-one but YOU!
