Last nights [11/12/08] London Evening Standard reports that Ofcom and ministers are considering a proposal to 'merge' Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide. C4 is losing money fast and could well go bankrupt in 5 years. This is what is currently 'under consideration'....................
The BBC would give C4 a majority holding in Worldwide, allowing it access to substantial revenues and control of the business. The revenue would be used to support the 'distinctive' public service broadcasting Channel 4 was set up to provide.
I may be wrong here and please correct me if I am, but it appears to me that their 'remit' seems to cater for a very narrow demographic. 18-30?
I for one dislike the idea of money I spend on Doctor Who DVD's being spent on yet another Big Brother series..................
