Whilst in the last few days of packing up my house for a move interstate, I found this can, It was in the Attic, No joke, Ok I put it there, to keep a TV/Film collectors sticky hands of it (and others), He Liberated several Sony CV tapes I had yet to audit!. So before his one and only visit I Placed em up there and promptly forgot. I did post a query here about it, But I think the thread got very Off topic before any concrete Answer could be given, I got annoyed and "forgot" about it. Is it missing? There are about 3 cans in total. One has the LWT river Ident on a double Sprocketed Positive. and a few Sepmags and a double sproketed B&W thing called "the swank"

That's a 400ft can isn't it?
Is it 35mm or 16mm?
LWT screened something called 'What the Butler Saw' on 6 July 1974 at 11.00am. Although that information comes from The Times so I've no idea what it actually was - perhaps someone with a TV Times might have a better idea!
Are these titles for it perhaps?
As for Swank (?) any other clues? It's not something intended for the Channel 4 fashion programme of the same name is it? Did LWT make that for C4?

Hello Adrian, I was able to find this web listing from the BFI on " What The Butler Saw" ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/683867Sounds like you may have the whole show, or possibly others from the same series on the other reels. "What The Butler Saw" was apparently shown as part of LWT's "Saturday Scene" on 6/7/74. "Gordon Jackson presents live rock groups playing in the studio." Acts listed are stated as being Camel (Which would really like to see, as most Camel footage have seen is great),Michael Chapman,Coast Road Drive, and Side Stepping Pig. Also, on the lostshows.com database, which does not have the specific listing for "What The Butler Saw", as was listed by the BFI as being shown on The Saturday Scene. Which found this listing under the Saturday Scene series listings: www.lostshows.com/default.aspx?programme=49fdb786-5e47-46c9-999b-63569620383906.07.74 Episode 36 (missing) Wish I had more info to assist here, will keep looking to see what can be learned here for you. Also, the CV reels sounded intriguing indeed. Sadly, all I could find on "Swank" was a segment on the Channel 4 1983-1987 "The Tube Summer Replacements". Sorry cannot be of further assistance there. Hope this is of some assistance here. Cheers, Lance.

Thanks for replys, Ill unspool (carefully of course) a few of em (3 cans) and let you know the full contents. I just found another LWT label, Which had fallen of one of the cans (and yes 400FT cans) it looks the same as the above one, hang on Ive just taken a pic Yep Sep Mags and a few Pos prints. the LWT river Ident is Single Sprocket stock with the Title sequence Sliced onto it. and what appers to be an animation (side stepping pig) on another the swank looks like amutur movie (not home movie, Im talking a film with titles and actors) its double sprocketed but I don't think it was "aried" But It was in the same cans at the LWT stuff Probally nothing missing. and a few of em have "turned" (if not all) Eagle Eyed GF has just examined the titlecard for the swamk. It Says The Swank A C.Brown Production July 63

So is that how you handle your precious records. "First I transfer them carefully, using my self-developed software so no frequencies are lost... Then, I bang some old films on top of them." ;D When they're in the opening credits, it's probably a good idea to write down any names you coime across (writer, actors,...). That should help to make out what you've actually got there.

Hi Adrian
Lance has beaten me to it and given you the right answer I think. Your photo of the can saying sidestepping pig confirms his diagnosis.
You have a missing show sir, fab news. What next? Do you want to return it? I'm sure ITV will be most grateful. Message me if you want details and I'll fix it up direct with them.
:-)

If this is a genuine item, this is great news! I'd really love to see this one again and footage of some of the lesser-known bands of that era would be a fascinating time capsule (I expect there isn't too much footage already existing for a few of those groups either)!
Let's hope a copy can return to the archives. Keep us informed on this one, guys?

"So is that how you handle your precious records." Yep I eat my Dinner from em!
Um the record is a Gag!! I wondered how many people would spot it.. I do have a few late 50's BBC TS discs (see pic) all I did was to scan the lable and glue it to a useless old dupe of a 78!! I scared the hell out of as friend recently, when he visited me I "arranged" him to sit on the disc quite unintentionally. Crack goes the disc, you should have seen his face, he thought he'd sat on a missing goon show!. He thought it was so good ive made up a few for him!. (I have 100's of Dud 78's)
From what Ive examined so far, it looks like the Titles with ident and on another a Cartoon more Sep's that Pos prints unfortunately. but again Ill get my GF to examine some frames more closely (and ive not unraveled all of em yet) But I don't think there is any "band's" on any of em. again ill take a proper look. (madly packing my house contents into boxes only have 24 hrs before moving van gets here, so there might be some delay!) But again what you see in the photo is pretty much it, 2 more flat packed bits.

on the first image, why is it that the label looks crumpled, yet the text is perfect ?
