I'd love to see that too... judging from clips used in the montage that preceded the 1993 repeat, I think it had a French theme. Am intrigued to find out who guested with Sandie on that show we haven't seen. It was weird seeing and hearing her duet with John Walker but it worked quite well. But yes... that transport episode is excellent and one I've enjoyed many times over the last 15 years. That was broadcast during "One Day In The Sixties" on August Bank Holiday 1993. Look forward to seeing this Nana Mouskouri show. The Rolf Harris one was a treat and I wish the BBC would do a season of all those variety shows fronted by singers... there were quite a few too - Sandie, Cliff, Lulu, Dusty, Cilla, Rolf, Nana, Val Doonican to name the ones right off the top of my head.

Think BBCFour did a Val Doonican night earlier this year when one was shown.
I too would love to see ANYTHING with Sandie Shaw in - she for me is the ideal sixties icon - smashing looking and a great voice.
Well at least we can assume BBCFour are aware of these shows - I guess the thing is support them by tuning in and asking for more. I see they are also showing a compilation show of nana Mouskouri TV appearances including her entry for Eurovision in the early 60s and colloborations with other artists such as Cliff!
Now as its Cliff's 50th year in showbiz wouldnt it be great if they did something like that for him? Especially as there seems to be no retrospective DVD coming from Cliff or his company!

Especially as there seems to be no retrospective DVD coming from Cliff or his company! Right on, on both counts. Sandie was/is iconic and archive footage of her is always a treat. One of the highlights of last years BBC Archive Online trial was the second edition of "A Whole Scene Going" which had a charming film about her followed by a question and answer section a la Pete Townshend where Sandie got a bit of a hard time from the inquisitors, (I felt really sorry for her watching it, even though it was from 41 years earlier!) Paul Jones of Manfred Mann being one who highlighted a very good point in the film. Fascinating piece of TV and one that deserves a full screening. As for Cliff, I am pleased he and The Shadows are doing one final tour to celebrate their 50th anniversary, but the lack of a DVD retro is puzzling, considering EMI have put out that box set. A Cliff evening celebrating 50 years would be very welcome and the BBC certainly have quite a bit of material to choose from over that time. It's as good a time as any for such an evening to happen. We shall see.

When those supposed 38- odd 405 Line Video Tapes emerged on ebay over a year ago they contained one heck of a lot of missing material from 1971-1972... TOTP, Lift of with Ayshea etc etc. Amongst them were 5 missing Cliff shows from 1972. Because the seller got carried away -eventually asking £25,000 as a 'Job Lot' - i think it all ended in tears and no one ended up getting them. The big gamble of course was that no one was sure they really WERE video tapes and the seller was unwilling to sell the collection individually, which further evoked suspicion. However after many emails over many months i did build up a dialogue of sorts and he did consent (in theory) to sell me the 5 Cliff tapes but wanted £8000 for them. Way out of my financial league! I contacted the Cliff Richard Organization who were totally uninterested and didnt even return my call to find out more details. As a last effort on my part i got him to agree to sell ONE of the shows - for £2500 -still far too much for my pocket im afraid. But what is £2500 to Cliff?? His management is run by blinkered but very capable accountants who now have very successful Cliff franchises in the wine, hotel and perfume industries. But they have no vision whatsoever when it comes to understanding what the fans really want.
Shortly after this episode my computer went wrong and i lost the guy's email. Id love to speak to him again - Pooly was his ebay name - just to find out what happened to that treasure trove of material.

what a shame about your computer going down. I was hoping there would be more info about those "38" one day. I mean come on 25grand that's not that much considering the resale value to doco's and dvd now is it!!
My feeling was and is still, that most of the tapes are unplayable. I mean I've mucked about with loads of tapes from this era and im a antique electronics boffin to boot. and sometimes just sometimes none will play. and really if you were going to sell em for 25grand you would seek out someone with a player and get a few "clips" so you could prove that's what's on them. I mean I could sell you loads of quater inch tape with 100's of missing tv/radio on them, but alas in most cases the tapes were 1) blank (or bulk erased, you can tell by listening to the Flux!) 2) Re-recorded over 3) had been sitting near magnets, speakers, motors for the best part of 40 years and are pretty much wiped with only the hint of the program (pretty much unintelligible even after cleaning)
I seriously hope someone does contact this guy one day. and takes a "player" to sort this almighty "mess" out.
now if someone had say, Power of the daleks, on said tapes I know at least 30 people who would pay 30 or more grand just to "have it" regardless of content!
pity there was now Who in the tapes!!
