From Friday week.
Shame it's not on in a more user friendly Thursday evening slot.
Haven't seen these since the 70's.
Will be interesting to see how they fare after such a long time.
Shame that the Avengers got pulled because the Americans withdrew their cash. It would have given Dr Who a run for it's money in the 70's with Steed evolving into a Mother type role and the assistants changing every few years.
I reckon it would have matched Dr who for longevity, with maybe the odd break.
I wonder how many of the younger audience think they are watching bbc shows rather than old ITV shows? c.f. Avengers, Batman etc.

I too would recomend getting the box set off of ebay or some similar outlet of box sets. The complete series can be got quite cheaply these days Happy hunting!! (although I dont really know why this is in the radio section, lol)

Dont think the Americans had anything to do with the New Avengers? It was half heartedly shown in the states a couple of years after it was transmitted here. It was the French who were enthusiastic about the remake and them who supplied a share of the cash IIRC, but wit the usual provision that they could influence the direction of the programme.
Declining ratings and I believe one French company pulled out to be replaced by another.

Wonderful camp fun!
Really enjoyed it tonight.
What a cracker Jo Lumley was!
The plot had more holes than a swizz cheese but who cares!
It was a whezz!

Well done BBC4.
The New Avengers should now be put on BBC1, in the slot superbly vacated by Jonathan Ross. Lets get some culture onto BBC1!

I actually enjoyed this too, though this was my initial introduction to The Avengers back in the 70s I've probably watched the original 60s shows more since. I agree some bits were a bit silly, Purdey wasnt very discreet trying to creep through a forest in 70s garb for instance, but it was still great fun and yes, I'd forgotten how gorgeous Joanna Lumley was back then. Good to see Patrick Macnee was still enjoying himself there too.
I would really like to see BBCFour do the Tara King and even the Cathy Gale episodes at some point, but Im more than happy with this run!

true, but lots has been said recently about bbc4 not showing archive tv shows and the new avengers does really fall into that slot, you could say the same for many shows that get discussed on here, and we still discuss the existing ones as well as the missing, I'm always appreciative of a heads up of any archive tv

Further to Andy's last comment, it keeps reminding us that most of the first series of "The Avengers" remains missing which adds further relevance, Isn't it so so frustrating for instance we have the first part of the very first episode, but Steed makes his entrance in part two - a moment of TV history - and it's gone!
