Hi All I've been watching the DVD box set from Network and there is note with one of the episodes from Series 2 - 'Take Your Partners' which reads something along the lines that 'The master tape for this episode was damaged beyond repair some time ago. This 'replacement edit' contains replacement opening titles, and as much of the episodes as could be restored from the master tape. No other copy exists.' Does anyone know how much of the episode is missing, and what actually happened to the tape to make it 'beyond repair.' The episode still runs 25 minutes and the remaining available tape looks to be of typical broadcast quality. Any comments would be appreciated.
Many thanks Mark

Hi Mark
I was very intrigued by this since it's the kind of information we should have in our database.
So I have investigated it for you... and it appears to be total rubbish.
The original VT transfer was done by Trevor Popple and there are no reported probs on his notes. It was a straightforward 2" to D2.
ITV have no records of any defects on the 2" or newer D2, and now newer still digibeta version, and have no 'original version'.
If it was damaged, it was damaged pre-2" transfer in the 1980s and no one has any records now as to what went on, but the tape in 1992 was clean, had no clog problems and had not been physically edited, so I don't know what is meant to be wrong with it.
