I am trying to put together a list of specific episodes of Australian drama series (including children's dramas) that are currently missing. My starting point has been to subtract what I know exists from what was made and I have managed to narrow things down pretty narrowly already.
Need help though with archive status of the following. Do any eps exist in private hands if they don't exist officially? Can anyone help?
ABC shows: Delta Dynasty Dead Men Running Twenty Good Years Patrol Boat Beat of the City Winner Take All Catspaw Run From The Morning The Oracle Lawson's Mates Timelapse Quality of Mercy Seven Ages of Man Lucky Colour Blue Wandjina Pastures of the Blue Crane Smugglers Beware Premiere Rush (series 1 only - series 2 exists)
Thanks for your help!

The series Wandjina was actually called Wandjina Magic when shown here in the UK. Maybe a search under that name might prove more fruitful? Just a thought.

Thanks to both Paul and Laurence for your replies.
RUSH: As far as I am aware the Olden Days was based on series 2 though I will have to check this out again to be sure. I suspect all of Rush may survive, it's just that I have no firm evidence (yet) that series one survives in its entirety.
PREMIERE: This was a 4 x 30mins anthology series made in 1980 and only shown once.
WANDJINA: Yes, I knew this was shown by BBC1 in 1967 but thanks, had forgotten about the title change!
Another two on my list that I need confirmation on are Case for the Defence and King's Men. I suspect both may survive but the NF&SA only hold sample episodes so I am unfwilling to mark it up as exisiting without confirmation.
On another subject, I managed to buy an episode of The Unloved, a Channel Nine daytime drama on Ebay last year and it is still sitting here in my house. I can't play it (I have no equipment) and am unsure if it is one of the missing episodes. 210 were made in 1968 and I presume not very many survived. Anyone any ideas on any contact details for the archive at Channel Nine?
Thanks!

Hi Martin, which state are you based in? It might be a good start to contact Nine's reception line and make enquiries from there. From what I've read in the past, Nine are pretty good with archiving material, whilst Ten STILL wipe stuff!

Hi Paul,
I'm based in Ireland, betcha you weren't expecting that answer! That's why I was wondering about how to contact Nine. Have a big interest in preserving Aussie drama though as it seems to be the section within the English speaking world that receives the least attention with regard to archiving/preservation.
Without an accurate list as to what is missing it is hard to find 'missing' material and I am worried that as the years go by, people could potentially jettison valuable material not even aware that it may be the only surviving copy of certain shows.
Have spoke to staff in the NF&SA before and even they cannot say what is missing and what is not. That's why I am trying to develop a list myself - no one else has done it!

Aha! Right-o then!!! ;D Nine's contact info is bit hard to come by online, but here's some of what I've found. There's a contact page on the site of Nine's parent company PBL which might yield you something: www.pbl.com.au/contact_us.htmI don't have any email addresses, but here is the phone details and street addy for thie Sydney studios: Studios & Administration 61 (02) 9906 9999 24 Artarmon Rd Willoughby NSW 2068 And Melbourne: Mailing Address: PO Box 100, Richmond VIC 3121 61 (03) 9429 0201 22 Bendigo St Richmond VIC 3121 Hope this helps!

Hello, Hopefully, I can be of some help. I am a television researcher at ABC TV (Australia) and thankfully all of the ABC titles from your list are represented in the ABC Archives, either as full series or have significant portions extant. I would need to check further to establish as to what is held from 'Smugglers Beware', [Tony Morphett's] 'Dynasty', 'Beat Of The City' & 'Delta'. This material can be traced within the ABC Archives. Whilst there are a number of ABC TV & Radio titles held at the National Film & Sound Archive, the ABC consigns archival material to the National Archives Of Australia (this might explain the gaps in the records for the NFSA's holdings of ABC material), & the NAA's collections can be viewed online (see link below) http:www.naa.gov.au/ During 2006, I conducted research for a series of short programs celebration the 50th anniversary of ABC TV. A number of the programs from the list were either considered or included in this series (see link below) and these programs were broadcast a number of times over 2006 & 2007 on ABC1 & ABC2 www.abc.net.au/tv/50years/compilations/Re: 'Rush' Yes, the 2nd series of 'Rush' ( a drama set in the 19th Century - filmed in colour) exists in the ABC Archives in its entirety. This series was a co-production filmed at the ABC's former film studios & locations near & around Sydney. The first series of 'Rush' (produced in B&W) was solely an ABC production, shot in Victoria. The fact that it was an ABC production (not a co-production) probably made it a less complicated proposition to use footage from series 1 for the 'D-Generation's [an ABC comedy program/team) satire of the series ('The Olden Days'). 'Interesting to learn that the 'Wandjina' series was retitled for its UK broadcasts (thankfully this series exists in its entirety). For those interested in finding out about Australian TV, a number of publications were published to tie-in with the 50th anniversary of Australian television that I'm sure could be traced online. I've added a further link to an historical overview of ABC children's programs that might also be of interest www.abc.net.au/rollercoaster/kidstv/50years/video.htmI hope this is of some help

Just to clarify...the ABC TV 50 Years site doesn't display the 'Mini-Series' & 'Drama' episodes online. For this series of short programs, we included short clips from 'Twenty Good Years', 'Dynasty', 'Pastures Of The Blue Crane', 'Patrol Boat' & both series of 'Rush'. We did look at material from 'Delta', 'Run From The Morning', 'Wandjina' (amongst other shows) but had to omit them for a number of reasons (primarily due to the short durations of the anniversay progs).
On the subject of 'Rush', I made a boo-boo re: 'The Olden Days', the send up of the 'Rush' series. This satirical segment was included in the ABC TV 'Late Show' comedy series not 'D-Generation'.

Wow, that's some fantastic information John! I'm suprised that there's so little on the web about the archival status of Australian TV. Does your mention of Rush mean that all of Season One exists? It'd be amusing to see in released on DVD packaged with "The Olden Days" for comparison!

Hi Paul,
Yes, thankfully, series 1 of 'Rush' exists in all its glory!
This is a series I'd love to see given a DVD release.
