This was a programme called ACCORDING TO HOYLE I still have the manchester Evening News Cutting from when it was shown. Jane Asher was in it but I missed the programme at the time.

It's probably just me, but I have no idea at all... -What 'According to Hoyle' is about -What the link is between that programme and A4A
I had to Google Jane Asher was in the BBC4 A4A remake.

Ah ... there was an earlier part to this thread which seems to have been deleted (because the originator was using a 'handle' ?).
There is some debate (here and elsewhere/when) about a programme about Fred Hoyle screened sometime in the 1970s in which a scene or two of A for Andromeda were recreated (the original 1961 production presumably having been disposed of by then).
Several people seem to recall seeing Jane Asher portray Andromeda; apparently in the programme identified above.
I can recall seeing a (possibly different) programme where a scene between Fleming and Judy Adamson, in a boat or on a beach, was recreated (neither actor being Peter Halliday or Patricia Kneale), but I don't recall seeing Jane Asher in it.
Simon - thanks for that. Does 'According to Hoyle' still exit in archives, do you know ?

Thanks Dave, that clears it up!
Would have been a good candidate for inclusion in the Andromeda dvd...

David Brunt (on Mauso) has just dug out the R/T entry; there were dramatisations from three of Hoyles works and the cast was:
Tony Doyle, Jane Asher, Frederick Jaeger, Peter Copley and Geoffrey Whitehead.
That's a powerful list, but sadly R/T didn't list who played who.
It really does begin to sound like the prog I saw, but I'm certain the girl wasn't Andromeda; it was Judy Adamson.

The reason why everything is so sketchy about ACCORDING TO HOYLE is probably because it was tucked away somewhere in the programming and I dont think it was a long programme. I knew I was right about JANE ASHER being in it.Sadly I missed the programme at the time .

according to hoyle is of course a pun on the card players rule bible written by Edmond Hoyle in the 18thC, therefore playing according to hoyle.

I e-mailed Jane Asher via her publisher over two years ago to try and solve this. I presume they did not forward it or treated my message as junk of which I am sure most people in the public eye get much too much.

It wouldn't surprise me if she just can't remember it - it's easy for us to remember one particular role an actor does, but for a busy actor like JA it's simply one job out of hundreds over 40+ years.

Jane Asher was the little girl in the scene with Richard Wordsworth in Hammers version of THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT and later she appeared in Nigel Kneales THE STONE TAPE.

Philip, around here, proudly proclaiming facts like that is somewhat akin to standing up in the middle of a Star Wars convention and shouting "Hey fellas! Guess what? Darth Vader is Luke's father!" Steve
