...and the article doesn't say why Bernard Braden recorded over three hundred interviews without them being broadcast, which is a rather baffling thing to do. Anyone?

Well, it's always possible that at the time and after they were made someone 'up aloft' thought they weren't good enough to broadcast.
Over the years there have been a few programmes that that's happened to.
