Just who was The Phantom Flan Flinger?
The only thing i remember about Tiswas was when Chris Tarrent was waiting for Sally James to do a postcard trick and he ran up the studio stairs to the production offices all excited, thankfully this was on one of the 3 video's that came out 10 years ago, what are the possibility of ITC releasing a whole edition on DVD complete with cartoons and ad breaks?

"Just who was The Phantom Flan Flinger?" various people I think, John Gorman, Syvester McCoy technicians, secret guest stars etc

I once asked Tarrant about the Phantom, and he said that he was played by the chap who used to drive him to and from the studios every week - John somebody.

what are the possibility of ITC releasing a whole edition on DVD complete with cartoons and ad breaks? Zero, for two reasons : 1. The Tiswas archive is now owned by Carlton, not ITC. 2. The clearance costs for something like that would be prohibitively high. Tiswas is a rights clearance nightmare, because it's so chock-full of third-party material like music videos, cartoons and film clips, all of which would have to be separately negotiated and paid for, assuming that they were actually clearable at all... and the commercials would obviously only add to that expense. Even the original title sequences are hugely problematic. When ITC released the three videos in the early 90s, they had to re-edit the opening titles to remove all the movie clips.

I think the 'Water' clip is actually of the Barron Knights, rather than the Dallas Boys (unless the DBs did it as well!), and it's on one of the ITC videos. Don't know about the Bellamy clip. Anything else on this 'ere N1700 you've got?

OOPS!!!...sorry""...it is the barron nights, been so long since i last saw it, the Lenny Henry bit was when he was talking about flowers, dressed as a flower in an old pair of jim jams, said they spent a "lot of time in its bed" the Phillips N1700 was the earlyest video machine with a top load, and took a chunky tape...playback quality is very good, beig a fast tape speed.

The David Bellamy clip is safe, where he try's to put Houdi Elbow off by sticking his finger up his nose, think he was trying to tell a joke or something.
Is that a whole edition that you have then on tape, if it is then can you let me know if their are any guests on it, so i can cross reference it with the archive holdings?

Good news for those of you who live in the BBC Radio WM area.
From next week, Sally James takes over the Saturday breakfast show between 6 & 9, but what the format will be, I don't know, but let's hope it's better than the format used for the old Friday afternoon show, plus I'll be able to hear it on a regular basis too!

Tiswas was ground breaking, stamping all over the middle class snotty nosed Swap Shop. It used real children rather than shepherded stage school kids. I do hope the episodes remain somewhere especially the pre-syndicated ones for the West Midlands only. I was privilleged to enjoy these episodes that were the most anarchic episodes of the run.

I forgot to add the colest moment was when my French teacher appeared in the cage. She tried to gloss over having done it on the Monday morning.
