Television Singapura; Here are a couple of listings from The Straits Times, 1966. Thanks to Richard Molesworth for his excellent mistxx document - the known purchase dates helped to narrow the search considerably. The Web Planet and the first three episodes of The Crusade were broadcast on Saturdays. However, episode 4 of The Crusade (The Warlords) was changed to a Friday broadcast for some reason. Moonstrike filled the Saturday slot on 10 Sept 1966. The following weeks, Dr Kildare. Interesting to see some of the other shows Television Singapura were broadcasting in 1966. Before The Wheel of Fortune...The New Casper Cartoon Show. They also showed The Black and White Minstrel show and Bewitched. Television Singapura changed their schedules a fair bit. So far we have discovered that Dr Who was screened on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The time slot was all over the place with episodes going out as early as 3:25pm and as late as 6:55pm. Sometimes The Straits Times would list the episode title, sometimes they wouldn't. A few more transmission details for Singapore; April to May (Shown on every Wednesday) THE RESCUE Wednesday 6 April (6.40 pm) [The Powerful Enemy] Dr. Who (Name of episode was not stated) Wednesday 13 April (6.45 pm) Desperate Measures THE ROMANS; Wed 20 April (6.45 pm) The Slave Traders Wed 27 April, Wednesday (6.40 pm) All Roads Lead to Rome Wed 4 May (6.35 pm) [Conspiracy] Dr. Who (Name of episode was not stated) Wed 11 May (6.35 pm) [Inferno] Dr. Who (Name of episode was not stated) July to September (Shown on every Saturday) THE WEB PLANET Sat 9 July (6.05 pm) Web Planet Sat 17 July (6.10 pm) The Zarbi Sat 23 July (6.40 pm) Escape to Danger Sat 30 July ( 6.40 pm) Crater of Needles Sat 6 August (6.25 pm) [Invasion] Dr. Who (name of the episode was not stated) Sat 13 August (6.55 pm) [The Centre] Dr. Who (name of the episode was not stated) THE CRUSADE Sat 20 August ( 5.10 pm) The Lion Sat 27 August (5.35 pm) The Knight of Jaffa Sat 3 September (4.15 pm) The Wheel of Fortune Fri 9 September The Warlords (6:40pm) November to December (Shown on every Sunday) THE CHASE Sun 13 Nov (5.15 pm) ) The Chase – Ep 4 Journey into Terror 20 Nov (4.15 pm) – The Chase – Ep 5 [The Death of Dr Who] Dr. Who (name of the episode was not stated) 27 Nov (5.20 pm) – The Chase – Ep 6 Planet of Decisions THE TIME MEDDLER Sun 4 Dec (4.20 pm) [The Watcher] Dr. Who (name of the episode was not stated) Sun 11 Dec (6.00 pm) The Meddling Monk Sun 18 Dec ( 3.35 pm) Dr. Who (name of the episode was not stated)

Hi Brian,
Can you explain to me why any of this is of the least bit relevant to looking for missing episodes? I'm having a very hard time understanding how the dates that certain episodes were broadcast 40+ years ago could be of much help.
But - we've had this discussion before and I don't think we'll ever agree on it ... :-)

Steven,
I never suggested that these dates could help find missing episodes. I am posting the information because I think it is interesting and other people may wish to see it. By the same token you could say that the RT's decision to include .pdf's of old Radio Times clippings is also pointless. The fact is - people like to see this kind of information. Call it a curio.
I had no idea that the broadcast times on Television Singapura were so chaotic. I also did not have any idea as to what other shows TV Singapura were broadcasting around the same time.
Brian.

Yeah - but you posted it in a missing episodes forum -- not in a "generally interesting Dr. Who information forum"...
Doesn't this sort of thing better belong on Outpost Gallifrey or some other general Dr. Who forum?

The information above actually does relate to a few missing episodes in that it provides transmission details. Some people may find this information interesting. I would have thought you would be interested, as a film collector, in such clippings/information. Brian.

I'm sure some people do find it interesting. But everything has it's place.
(And by the way, there is no need for you to insult me personally if you don't agree with me -- that's uncalled for).

Steven, If people find this sort of information to be completely out of place here then I will happily remove it. Quite a few people have read this thread - so...I would appreciate if people could let me know whether or not they wish to see other foreign clippings. Re: insulting you. I merely suggested that I felt you were overreacting a little. Sorry if you took offence. Something else worth considering is that this type of research could potentially throw up some interesting results. BBC Enterprises list of known sales to foreign countries is by no means complete. The information could also be correlated to other countries broadcast information in terms of the cycling of prints. Brian.

Ah well... At least it was posted on the actual forum and not a link to another site that takes ages to load... Also hope you guys are feeling better now. Don't let these things bother you too much. Some posters here wind up easily and get really defensive when others question their reasons for posting or offer opinions that may appear to differ from their own. (If we see a hastily-written, on-the-defensive reply to this comment appear from certain posters you'll know what I mean and my point will be proved...) The point I guess I'm trying to make here is that most of us are largely unknown to each other in the real world and that posting anything on the internet is, for the most part, relatively anonymous. None of this is worth getting wound up about or getting an ulcer for... Take care all and have a great day.

I actually have researched the Singapore air dates going up as far as 1973. Sadly the newspapers accessed don't always give titles.

Here are a few listings from Le Mauricien, Mauritius. Quite amusing how they always capitalised the word WHO. The first one is from 2 February 1968, The Warlords. Known purchase date - November 1967. Below; left The Space Museum episode 2 (check out the spelling and slightly incorrect episode title). Broadcast on 9 February 1968; right The Time Meddler episode 4 from 28 March 1968.

I actually have researched the Singapore air dates going up as far as 1973. Sadly the newspapers accessed don't always give titles. Jon Preddle Jon, Fantastic piece of research there Jon. Well done! Do you know from your records when The Straits Times stopped listing episode titles or episode numbers? Did they ever list episode numbers? (Obviously with episode numbers we could at least determine what some stories are - for example, vintage Dr Who listed as; "Dr Who 4 of 5" couldn't be anything other than The Dominators. However, it appears that Singapore did not purchase and broadcast the stories in the correct chronological order anyway. So maybe not that useful. I think they purchased some Troughton stories before The Tenth Planet! Considering this and the very erratic screening times I can imagine a lot of Sinaporeans would have been quite confused by Dr Who. Although there doesn't seem to be a strong fan base in the country a visit to their national library website and quick search (international registration requires that you enter your passport number) reveals there is quite a reasonable degree of interest in classic series Dr Who. At the end of this post I have included a list of all the Dr Who content currently held in all Singapore libraries; (including literature and visual material). I know it may appear a bit anal to print the whole list - but in the hunt for missing episodes I think it is important that we gather as much information as possible about Dr Who in these foreign countries. It is interesting to note that the only early Dr Who novelised story they hold in their collection is the hardback of Marco Polo - and it is not available for loan, reference only. As this story pertains directly to Asia and was purchased and broadcast (sometime in 1965 I imagine) I'm sure that explains its prescence in their library. At some point in the 1970s Television Singapura switched from showing Dr Who on Channel 5 to Channel 8. I have seen very little of the 1970s broadcast listings, but as you say, The Straits Times stopped listing episode titles at some point. Pity. I have attached a couple of examples from March 1973. The only known purchase dates we have from 1973 are as follows; The Mythmakers --/01/73 The Massacre --/01/73 The Celestial Toymaker --/01/73 These listings may well be pertain to one of these stories. I wonder if there were some family feuds over who got to see Basil Brush and who got to see Dr Who as they were both broadcast at the same time! Almost a month ago I wrote a missing episodes piece for www.yesterday.sg which the editors were kind enough to publish. Aside from raising some publicity for the matter I encouraged Singaporeans to share their memories of the vintage broadcasts. The article has so far been read 171 times, but no comments as yet. Link; yesterday.sg/detail/singapore_and_missing_dr_who_episodes/Thanks to everyone who has commented on the clippings. I may have a few more clippings in the next few days. Haven't looked into Hong Kong yet though. It would be great to see some other people doing a bit of research and posting some clippings up.
