After the rumour of Invasion of the Dinosaurs 1 being found in colour, my dad and I had a long discussion on different ways to be able to find colour copies of some of the B/W Pertwee episodes. He mentioned something that made me very interested.
My father is in the Canadian Navy, and when he was posted to his first ship in 1974, they had an early form of VCR aboard in which tapes were sent to them periodically from Ottawa. TV shows were really popular amongst the crew, and among the shows sent to them on a regular basis was Doctor Who.
Now my dad has no idea how long the player was aboard the ship before he got posted there, but he clearly remembers watching Tom Baker episodes. When the VCR was replaced with an actual VHS player, they packed up the old VCR (I think he said it was 3-inch tapes or something like that), along with all the stacks of old episodes of Gunsmoke, Doctor Who, etc, and sent them back to Ottawa.
My question is, I wonder if any Pertwee episodes were sent to the ships, and if so, where they've ended up now. I have no idea of the broadcast history of Doctor Who in Canada, so this could be a completely hopeless approach.
Either way, my dad said he'll ask some people in Ottawa (I live in Victoria on the other end of Canada) to ask around and see whatever happened to all those old tapes. If they're just lying about in a warehouse somewhere, maybe it's time to talk to the Canadian Armed Forces...
Any thoughts?

Interesting! It is indeed difficult to say which private parties and companies/businesses etc might have at some time recieved video recordings of what now constitutes missing material. Well worth a look in my opinion. Good luck.
