I met the guy while working as an editor at TVC. Departments like the projection theatres had various bits and pieces around. I remember several telerecordings of old 'Cilla' shows being used to test 16mm projectors. I already knew by then roughly what was missing and did my best to check the viewing theatres in TVC, Ealing, Lime Grove, and Kensington House/Woodstock Grove. Never found anything, but did meet this guy who had some stuff at home. As I recall he had IOTD ep 1, all of 'The Space Museum', parft 3 of 'The Time Meddler' and possibly ep2 of The Abominable Snowmen. It's possible the last named was also missing at the time and I helped return that one as well. It's over 20 years ago and its difficult to remember exactly. Ian Levine will certainly be able to give you chapter and verse on this one. He has a much better memory for details. I now believe I am right to say that there was 405 line Shibaden recording as well.

The guy who Roger found and introduced me to, way back at the start of the 1980s, was the same guy who hoarded the A For Andromeda episode for so many years until I finally persuaded him to let me return it.
He found the following Doctor Who prints - some were missing, most were not.
AN UNEARTHLY CHILD 1 THE EDGE OF DESTRUCTION - 1, 2 THE RESCUE - 1, 2 THE SPACE MUSEUM 1 THE TIME MEDDLER 1, 2, 3 THE TENTH PLANET 2 THE MOONBASE 4 THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN 2 THE AMBASSADORS OF DEATH 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (I think - there were 5 prints in black and white) CARNIVAL OF MONSTERS - 1, 2, 3 INVASION OF THE DINOSAURS 1
That's twenty one prints. He had squirreled away quite a collection, thankfully for us. Four of these were totally missing from the BBC. Pity it wasn't more.

Thanks Ian - I knew you'd remember. Its worth noting that while there's a mass of documented evidence of the making of the programme itself, there's very little kept by way of records of what has turned up over the years, by whom, and when.

So one question that arises out of this is around Evil 2. Since it's not on the list do we know who pulled this one, and whether it was in similar circumstances?
I'm guessing not, and that we don't know the specifics of its' movements before Gordon Hendry picked it up at the car boot sale. It would be interesting to fill in that blank one day though - always wondered just how many people were able to save these prints at the time of the clearout.

A quick round of a few film collectors I lifted off the net and from my own contacts, still shows a surprising number who know nothing about missing episodes of any tv show, it is definitly worthwhile mass producing a letter about this and sending it to as many film collectors as possible (no one had anything by the way, except 1 who used to have a George Formby TV show Appearence)

As for the Evil ep 2 print. I believe it was kept and screened by a Buckingham Movie Museum. As was stated by Gordon Hendry himself in the Missing Years Documentary ( which is a great documentary by the way, great clips used ). What I want to know is where the chap who had Wheel in Space ep 3 had received his 16mm print ? He apparently had some other episodes, that were not mentioned, they most likely were already existing episodes. Is it possible he received his material from another such collector ? Just another crazy idea. Any intelligent comments or info would be appreciated.
Lance.

Gordon said that he *acquired* it at a boot fair held at Buckingham Movie Museum. That's quite a different thing to what you're suggesting. Richard

Hey Richard,
Sorry for the late response, been swamped at work and school lately. Sorry for that oversight, I guess I got a little confused, my apologies. That is cool though, I wouder how the prints made it to the car boot fair ? We may never know.
