Just a thought. The Creator Sydney Newman was involved in Doctor Who right through until The Enemy of the World (albeit peripherally), as he was BBC head of drama until 1967. He passed away 9 years ago now, having long since returned to Canada. His wife, Elizabeth McRae, had died many years before him, but the couple were survived by three daughters.
Is there any chance that Sydney retained any film prints (you saw this coming, didn't you?!) that might have gone back home to Canada with him and which could still reside with his children's families, who of course may be entirely unaware of their value should there be an otherwise missing episode among a collection that just might exist?(!)
A LOT of shoulds, ifs, coulds and mights, there... but is this an unexplored avenue? After all, how bizarre was it that Steptoe & Son's writers/creators should very late in the search be the ones to unearth the last few missing programmes there? Or that someone who had long been very much involved in the world of televsion should suddenly produce the last Who episode find, having not realised the importance of their holding?

I would think that since Mr Newman was interviewed about his time on the programme as far back as the 80s - certainly I recall a DWB interview - that he would have been asked then if he had anything missing.

"The Creator Sydney Newman"? Now that's a phrase that's going to stick! What other demi-gods are there? The Hero Robert Holmes? The Heretic John Nathan-Turner? The Destroyer Jonathan Powell?
