Hello to all you Doctor Who fans.
I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any plans to release Planet of the Daleks on DVD.
Thanks in anticipation.

There are plans to, eventually, release all of Dr Who on DVD. It is just a case of when.

I wonder if the BBC will hold off on this one while they investigate the possibilities of colourising - for want of a better word - episode 3. That said, I'm not aware of any existing colour recording, not even an off-air NTSC VHS source. To be honest, I thought black and white did the episode a favour, adding mood and atmosphere missing from the colour episodes. Then again, it's not one of my favourite 'Who' stories.

There is no off-air colour source for POTD 3, IOTD 1 or all of MOE (bar a couple of minutes).

Some years back, there was a vogue in the US for colourising black and white films. While the end results looked awful, it proved quite popular with viewers. Even the British film 'Scrooge' underwent this process. I wonder if the BBC has considered using a similar process for the b/w Pertwee episodes. I'd say leave them as they are. 'Mind of Evil' looked great to me. Haven't seen 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs' since its original UK broadcast. We had a b/w TV back then, so I never saw part 1 in colour.

I think this is quite expensive in terms of employing people to do it, but the software is relativly cheap now. It would be easier not to and just have a note saying "due to condition of archive material.." et.c and the cost woud not be justified by the low sales of the DVD, but having said that I still think they should colourise it even if they have to guess at some of the colours.

I would be for this, since unlike colorizing b&w films, you would actually trying to restore the currently b&w Pertwees to something close to their original form. Funny note: remember the April Fool's joke in DWM where they claimed to have found "The Tenth Plannet" part 4 and were colorizing it for the CBC? I actually believed that one for years. Boy was I steamed when I found out!

A lot of the old Laurel and Hardy episodes from the 30s have been courised since 1983 and some of them look quite good
