While we are on the subject of Hoaxes, Has anyone ever come across a Nicholas Holmes as a Hoaxer. This guy hoaxed me last year when he claimed to have 8mm silent copys of 1 and 4 of the Invasion, claiming they had come from the estate of Douglas Camfield. He even went as far to hand me a Dvd, which was of course was blank.
Interesting to know if this guy has duped anybody else.

Well, its easy to get carried away with your enthusiasm for finding lost material. And tbh, leads have to be checked out really. 8mm could have been shot off of the screen at transmission.

Nicholas claimed that both episodes were silent 8mm with out any credits and were recorded by the Director of the story, Douglas Camfield on a private home camera that he took into the recording, and recorded scenes from the production onto this camera, which for all we know could have happened. Whatever my feelings I felt I should follow it through anyway in case there was any grain of truth. Also Nicholas could give me an accurate discription of the episode, having seen the recon was of these two episodes he was spot on.

If you've seen the recon, then isn't it probable that he did as well? Or at least had seen one of the highly detailed synopses of the two missing episodes that have been around for the past 20 years!

Yes, but these things still need checking out and this was also before the Invasion soundtrack was released on Double CD by BBC weorldwide. And beside you don't know how convincing this guy was, everything he said added up, I checked up the info he gave and it all added up, and besides Hoaxers usually make some sort of error. I arranged a date

Seriously though guys, this Nicholas Holmes was very convincing, and I got taken in by him. When he agreed to let me view the episodes I honestly diden't think he would show, but hey he appeared with a DVD.

No. Name doesn't ring a bell. Where did you meet him? In my home town, he claimed he owned a house there and also in Orpington, where he originally lives. He came into my workplace where I was deputy manager of a Charity shop at the time. I happened to be speaking to a customer who I have known for a while who is a Doctor Who nut like me and we had been talking about Day of Armageddons recovery and Missing episodes in general when Nicholas came over to the till point and introduced himself and claimed he been left some missing material that had originated from the state of Douglas Camfield, he had been trying to return the material many years earlier but had been snubbed, and would I be able to help him and things progressed from there really, we had several more meetings, with me pressing that I was happy to help but coulden't do anything really unless I had seen the episodes myself and had positive proof of there existence, untill eventually he produced a DVD which was blank.
