Hi all, yeah, I remembered something from a few years back today, that someone may care to follow up if they know the guy.
I was introduced to someone calling themselves steve salazar about 12 - 13 years ago. Does anyone know who im talking about? I think he used to drink at the fitzroy on rare occasions. I have no way of contacting him now. One of my freinds at the time was pretty close with him and said he was on the level (ie not a bullshitter) I met him a few times. The reason for posting this is that he used to swear blind that a private collector who he wouldnt name had shown him a 16mm print of fury of the deep episode 3.
Now, I am not claiming this is fact, but if anyone knows who im talking about it may well be worth pestering him to see if he still maintains this is a fact.
Just a thought. Anyone know of him?

I have never heard of the guy, but it sure would be a fantastic find if a whole episode from Fury was recovered. Anyone else know anything about this guy ?
Lance.

Well his name doesnt seem to have pinged any radars as yet. I was introduced to him by someone named mark adams, an occasional drinker at the fitzroy tavern. I think he may have changed his sir name to salazar, I seem to remember being told that. He was also into trains.
Well, its probably a crock, but if anyone knows who im talking about maybe they could try and verify the story......... might be worth a shot. Probably not though!

Do you have any idea where he lived, which area?
It'd help a lot.

He was a Londoner, at least he was over a decade ago, he may well have moved. I havent got a lot of details to give on this, sorry. I was hoping someone around here would know him or of him, so we could have a go at asking him. I remember he was part of a little crew of hardcore sci fi fans who had a pretty impressive selection of material that at the time was very hard to lay hands on; im not talking missing episodes (so far as i knew) but they had some hard to find stuff. Someone out there must know who i am talking about!

Was this around the time 'Tomb of the Cybermen' was recovered? I wonder if this discovery prompted a load of Troughton-related rumours. If the mysterious collector did have an episode of 'Fury from the Deep', he's been happy to keep it hidden away ever since. Could your contact have meant 'The Underwater Menace' part 3? If he was a 'Doctor Who' fan probably not, but an s-f fan more interested in other shows might confuse the two.
On a related topic, has anyone on this board ever met a collector - or friend/acquaintance of a collector - who claimed to have missing episodes from 'The Highlanders', 'The Underwater Menace', 'The Faceless Ones', 'Enemy of the World' or even 'The Space Pirates'? It strikes me that most rumours centre on 'classic' Troughton stories, usually with a famous monster.

I've heard of a Highlanders rumour. And a Faceless Ones one coming to think of it. Can't recall the details off the top of my head, though.

Very right tho ... most rumours are usually about the supposedly important episodes of Doctor Who such as Fury, or Web of Fear, Dalek Master Plan, or Tenth Planet 4, and almost never about the supposedly boring ones like The Savages or The Space Pirates.
I mean really, try a hoax about The Savages or The Myth Makers existing, and you'd probably get, "yeah so what?" from your average fan. Altho for me and some others, any who that gets returned is a good thing, even if it's really a boring episode when you see it.

Yeah - there was a story around a few years ago about a collector in Scotland who supposedly had Episodes 2 & 4 of "The Highlanders"...
Hmmm... Highlanders? Scotland? Coincidence or not...?

Any 'Who' discoveries would be cause for celebration. I'd love to see 'The Myth Makers' and 'The Savages', even if they can't live up to the tantalizing 8mm fragments included on 'Lost in Time'. That said, 'The Dominators' was a major disappointment. Even Brian Cant couldn't save it. As for 'The Highlanders' existing somewhere in Scotland, we'll probably see the Loch Ness monster first. And I don't mean the puppet from 'Terror of the Zygons'.

And I don't mean the puppet from 'Terror of the Zygons'. Well, I will add, as disappointing as The Dominators may have been, you still can't beat the Trout's performance as the Doctor ... whether he's actively trying to fool the Dominators into believing he is an imbecile, or cheekily sneaking around into the Dominator's spaceship to deposit a bomb before it goes off and destroys the planet ... his performance is absolutely spot-on! As for The Savages, it ranks high marks for me for a couple of reasons: First, it avoids cliches that frequently plague Doctor Who ... the Doctor, for once, lands on an alien planet, meets the local aliens, and instead of being arrested or thrown in prison or accused of murder, he's given the royal treatment! These people were even able to deduce he was a time traveller. Secondly, it's one of those rare "everybody lives, rose!" stories ... nobody gets killed. To my knowledge, Hartnell only ever had two of those types of stories in his entire tenure.

Troughton had Fury from the Deep. What was the other Hartnell (Edge of Destruction?)

Yep - those would be the big three... "The Edge of Destruction", "The Savages" and "Fury from the Deep". Although Van Luyten seems to perish in the fourth episode of the latter (it's not until near the end of the story that it is implied he survived).
I can't think of any other original series stories like that. (Maybe "The King's Demons" - can't remember - did anyone die in that?)
