It's actually spelt 'Legree' but no, I've never met him!
Apparently the missing episodes theory stems from a letter written to DWB in the eighties in which Roger expresses his opinion that stories such as 'Fury From The Deep' and 'The Macra Terror' ARE too frightening! In other words, he wrote the letter as if he had recently seen the said stories. Whether he had or not is yet to be established. He certainly is an enigma though and I don't know of anyone who has ever met the guy?!
But please read and divulge this very carefully...apparently he may be some kind of doppleganger for something much bigger. Remember 'North By Northwest' with Cary Grant and how a character was created to put people of the scent of a would be crime?! Well I reckon that's what the story is. I think Roger Legree is a mere pawn for a consortium that is withholding missing episodes from the BBC. The characters name in the aforementioned Hitchcock film is also called Roger! Coincidence? I think not...
You heard it hear first! I am hearing big noises about this from someone who is extremly high up in fandom and if he believes it then I have no reason to doubt him. Apparently Mr Legree has been around the fan scene since the late seventies and with certain cohorts, cleaned up the 16mm film collector market, long before anyone seriously started to look.
I shouldn't really be putting this info on the internet and once this gets out the whole lot will pop out like a champayne cork. This is big, very big guys!
