I believe the oldest programme to be recovered from a home recording was from 1973. The Steptoe And Son episode My Old Man's A Tory from 1965 only survives as a domestic format recording.

I don't think the lost Steptoes were recorded on home domestic video recorders.They were just copies that Galton had run off,and then he just took them home and left them in his basement.

"My Old Man's a Tory" has a VT clock at the start on the master copy I think - certainly not the globe as it would be on an off-air copy.

so a very slim chance for other shows then (probably most likely totp though) saved by this method.
