Hey Guys, I just came across this website: www.carbootcalendar.com/about.htmWhere they list most major and minor car boot sales in the UK. I thought that since missing material has been recovered from car boot sales, then this might be of use to someone in the UK who could actively check these sales out ( Or the promising ones that is ). Just a thought, now please let's try to keep this thread at a adult and civil level, that would make this much more enjoyable for all of us. Thanks, Lance.

FWIW, I went through a patch of attending 3 or 4 car boots every Sunday morning for about 2 years. I never once saw a can of film for sale.

I guess I just thought since missing material has resurfaced from car boot sales ( Evil of the Daleks 2, Faceless Ones 3) that this magazine might be worth a shot, but I guess no one is interested in new view points of episode recovery.

Evil and the Daleks #2 and The Faceless Ones #3 were recovered from a fair organised by the specialist Buckingham Movie Museum, rather than just a bog-standard boot fair.

and finding boot fairs isn't hard, they don't tend to keep them secret.

Funnily enough, I was at a car boot sale on Sunday, and I saw a guy offering a 16mm sound projector, and couple of Super 8 projectors and a bundle of Super 8 Laurel and Hardy prints. First time I'd ever seen any film prints at a car boot either.

Wasn't one of the Wheel In Space episodes recovered from a boot sale in Southampton?

Wasn't one of the Wheel In Space episodes recovered from a boot sale in Southampton? No, David Stead placed an advert in his local newspaper asking if anyone had any television film prints. Eventually he made contact with someone who knew someone else who had one. Richard

Is there any truth to the long-standing story that the owner of the print was relucant to part with it, but gave it when the BBC came knocking at his door?

Well, David Stead had the print for a while before he returned it. Gary Russell hinted at it's existence in an issue of DWM and eventually he returned it. I was DWAS local group supervisor around that time and went to a few of Bill Bagg's Hampshire local group meetings. They printed an off-screen picture from the episode in their fanzine and I commented that someone obviously had a Wheel in Space episode. I don't know if that upset Stead but when Bill invited Dominic May and myself to one of their meetings where they were going to show the episode, Stead threw his toys out of the pram and banned me from the meeting. I remember Bill was very embarrassed about it.

Man, that sucks. Being thrown out of a screening of an at the time newly discovered episode. Did you talk to David after he saw Wheel In Space #3 ?

Have there been any more of these film museum film fairs around the UK lately ? How many film museums actually exist in the UK ? And are there any film museums in Canada or Australia ? They could have a missing episode or two, just a thought.
Thanks, Lance.

I don't think David was keeping it much of a secret at the time. He certainly offered to bring the episode over and show it to me if I could find a 16mm projector. That must have been a good 8-12 months before it ended up going back to the BBC. Richard

Have there been any more of these film museum film fairs around the UK lately? There quite a number of film fairs around the country. The BBFC run regular ones a few times a year in Ealing and Blackpool, there are other ones in Manchester and so on. Richard
