...Well that might be your opinion Steven...and I am glad you have returned missing Recordings...but you seem to be defending people that hoard the stuff, I am not criticizing people on this board, just voicing my own opinion, this has been the subject of past debate, and has never will be solved. Which people who hoard the stuff ? Who are they ? Yes this subject will never be solved until you can identify who the culprits are (if they exist at all ??) I'm with you Clive . Eric: I'm not defending anyone -- for the simple reason that as far as I know no such people exist. If you have some evidence that there really are people out there then let us know about it. Otherwise stop posting nonsense like this. It reminds me of the McCarthy hearings in the 1950s - or of that great scene in "The Manchurian Candidate" -- "I have a list of 200 people in the US Government who are communists" (as he holds up a bunch of blank paper).... |

Steven....I do not like being compared to those silly comadys....Mc Carthy Etc....I say what I Believe to be true, there is vast amount of people hoarding missing recordings....and NO!!!...I cant say who they are, I would personally publish their names right across this board...so-called "T.V" producers and Radio Directors are the worst culprits....after all, correct me if wrong...they are the ones with more access to the stuff?

Eric. There are of course many hundreds of people who worked on or starred in programmes that are now missing. However, to say that a "vast amount of people" are hoarding missing programmes is quite frankly ludicrous. There is no evidence to suggest that this is the case. If you can produce one shred of evidence that someone is hoarding anything over and above the few, already known, examples (cf A For Andromeda), then please do, and I'm sure we'll all be fascinated to read it. But you can't produce this evidence, can you?  |

If you do have proof of such hoarding why not provide it, privately, to one of the moderators here? Then, if it is genuine they could post a message saying simply "Yes, Eric's information is genuine". We wouldn't need to know the ins and outs or any details; their word that it is genuine would be sufficient. What have you got to lose?  |

There's nothing "Old Boys Network" at all. A reputation takes time to build up, that is all. If you can prove what you say (as I said in my previous post, do this in private to a moderator), that will make people sit up and think "blimey, this guy knows what he's talking about". So, when someone like Ian Levine states "As for A For Andromeda, I know who has a complete episode. I think it's part five, and it has "Tiger" in the title. He wants a stupid amount of money for it, and refuses to return it to the archives, sadly. " you know you can trust what he says is true. If I were to make claims of existing missing material, I would not expect people to believe me unless I could back it up. And if I couldn't back it up, I wouldn't post it... |

Actually, Eric, I know no such thing. Presumably your reticence in providing any evidence is something to do with you being afraid of being ridiculed by anyone you falsely accuse..? I think the wax is in your lugholes - several times now you've been asked to back up your laughable claims, and we've not a peep in terms of verifiable facts. |

But what is so wrong with the 'Old Boys Network' who rely on experience and knowledge rather than present un-verifiable claims ? This forum's purpose should ideally be to sort the wheat from the chaff rather than introduce new rumours and counter-rumours. Most, or I should say all, TV and Radio producers I have met or seen interviewed would love to discover or see their early work and for it to be presented towards a wider audience for critical acclaim. Granted, there are actors and actresses who would prefer that their early work was not shown again or repeated. But this is different to the accusation that Producers, Directors are with-holding episodes (or hoarding as you have put it). If you make such a claim, then please provide the evidence, or this becomes yet another rumour which others will run with. |

Eric: If you are in the possession of hoarders then why not take a chance and give that info to Paul Vanezis or Ian Levine ? It would be a great help in their push to locate missing material. If you accidentally piss someone off, then just apologies profusely for that mistake. You would be doing the community of fans a great favor by providing the names, if you do not provide the names then you ensure the fate of classic television, that will be lost forever. All due to a moment of indecision on your part. So, please provide this list.

Eric -- so now you've named some people who you claim have missing stuff. What is it that you think they have and what is your evidence that they actually have it? This is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned Senator Joseph McCarthy (not Charlie McCarthy) who went around accusing people of being communists without any evidence whatsoever to support those accusations -- and in so doing ruined many peoples lives. Lastly -- I said: "If it is a "well known fact" then where's the proof? Sounds like simple speculation to me... Sorry, but I don't buy it.... You supply no evidence to back them up. We're not asking you to repeat yourself, just back up your statements. Once will do, no need for repeats. What makes you so certain that Lion el Blair has something, and, if I may ask, what is he supposed to have that he is refusing to return..? Indeed, has he ever been asked for a copy of it back, whatever it is..? |
