Most likely ones to find are The Tenth Planet Part 4 Daleks' Masterplan 4 Both were apparently stolen. Reign Of Terror 4,5, Ice warriors 2,3, Invasion 1, 4 are also likely IMHO because it doesn't really make sense to me that the BBc would destroy part of a story and leave the majority intact. I may well be wrong. Never understood why they only threw out two Invasion episodes. I would say, based on a hunch, that the most likely ones to be located are Marco Polo (simply cos it was sold to so many places) and the two Troughton Dalek stories. I reckon this because someone who wants to half-inch the tapes or films would spot 'Daleks' on the label and think "Oooh, Daleks". And then nic k 'em. Whereas a label saying The Macra Terror or The Space Pirates would probably not make someone as excited. Jeff Tenth Planet 4 and Master Plan 4 were both stolen? I was under the impression that Master Plan 4 went missing after Blue Peter used it, but it's a leap to assume it was stolen. Things go missing all the time and sometimes don't turn up. It's quite possible (and actually at least as probable as being stolen) that the film(s) went to the wrong place and were subsequently thrown out; they could even, at a push, be in the film library but mis-filed. The rest of your theories are based on faulty logic and assumption I'm afraid. The BBC did not keep the episodes of "Reign of Terror" - indeed, in 1982 NO episodes of this were known to exist. The "Invasion" episodes were also recovered from a couple of places, and "The Ice Warriors" episodes were found at a BBC Enterprises building that was being cleared for redevelopment - so if the other 2 episodes were there at all they probably went in a skip. We know exactly what happened to episodes 4 and 5 of "Reign of Terror" - they were in a building in Northern Cyprus that was bombed and destroyed in 1974 during the Turkish invasion. "Marco Polo" may have been sold to many countries, but the prints were most likely bicycled from one to another, and it's probable there were no more than 3 or 4 sets. The fact that no episodes have ever been found stacks the odds against the theory of lots of prints being made. The Troughton Dalek stories were not sold widely at all so the likelihood of anyone stealing them is very slight. You can't steal something that doesn't exist.

Ahh well, at least the MP3 Recon of "Power of the Daleks" is reasonably good. A computer generated one in the far future seems the only part bet!

Hi there, I've never really been to any forum sites before, but I thought I'd just have my two bob's worth! Being a 40 year old Australian guy, I was never aware of the big hoo-hah about deleted Dr Who episodes until a buddy of mine broke to me the sad sad news in the 80's. I was able to recall as an 8 year old watching weekday afternoon TV on our ABC during the school holidays - probably around 1973, but I could be wrong - some Patrick Troughton Episodes, which I learned years later was Fury From the Deep. As a kid I remember being totally creeped out by the episodes, all that creeping foam swallowing guys in the corridors of the oil rig and that pulsing noise it made and the amazing claustrophobic atmosphere the story had. BUT - I never dared shut my eyes in case I missed anything! Being able to hear the audio tapes of the story brought back lots of memories - yes, dim ones, granted - so I hope that if there's any way this amazing story could be recovered, the world would be a better place.
Cheers
Ray

With our luck, the next episode finds we'll get are The Ark in Arabic and 17 mint condition prints of The Tenth Planet #3. 8)

Ahh well, at least the MP3 Recon of "Power of the Daleks" is reasonably good. A computer generated one in the far future seems the only part bet! I think I'd like that. I read the BBC's websites photonovel of it and it was great! I've read quite a few of the Troughton ones and they're great. I'm reading 'The Evil of the Daleks' for the second time now. I'd like to see more of his recovered, because as far as I'm aware, 'The Tomb of the Cybermen' is the only one. He's become one of my favourite Doctors, even though I've only seen a few clips, heard a few sounds and read a few photonovels. It's a shame, because I wasn't around when they were originally shown, so for some episodes, I haven't got a chance on Earth (or anywhere else), of being able to see them.

Mission to the Unknown was still around at that point too, wasn't it? Or slightly before? That had gone a few months earlier. Richard
