I have heard from at least one reliable source and several other questionable sources that a specific missing episode was purchased earlier this year by a collector at a car boot sale in Stoke. The story goes that he purchased the film, unaware of its true value until several months later when he showed it to someone who was aware of its value and pointed it out to him at which point he turned into a greedy bastard and decided to hoard it until it generated enough interest to sell for a five figure sum. The laughable factor is that the episode is question is not worth a four figure sum!
Has anyone heard more about this? I have deliberately neglected to mention which episode it is to avoid stirring up the rumour mill but I also wanted to see how accurately other stories people have heard match my own.

Sounds like the usual hoaxter bollocks to me...
If this guy really has this episode and wants to make money out of it, why hasn't he offered it for sale on ebay or somewhere equivalent where people who buy these things would see it. Keeping it a secret completely defeats the purpose of "generat[ing] enough interest to sell for a five figure sum"....

Surely any missing episode is worth something - especially to the BBC who could release it - but if it DOES exist as Steven says, why keep it a secret?
Bit late for April Fool isnt it?

Hi Ash -- You said: "The Car Boot in question here was in Stoke, and it turned out to be an extract from an existing episode."
So what episode was the footage from then? How much footage was there?

I was told, in a PM from the chap who started the thread that it was :
"About four minutes worth of footage. I think it was from the Chase with Daleks in the jungle and those thorny plants mostly but also inside a bunker. I think it's from part 6."

Hi Ash --
Interesting -- Chase (6) is one of the "more common" episodes -- I think it was one of the ones that were "borrowed" in the 1980s... Too bad it wasn't a complete episode...

So is it The Chase 6 or Mission to the Unknown?

There is however a slim chance that it could be a missing episode?

There is no chance it was a missing episode.
The initial suggestion was that it could have been Mission To The Unknown. However, when it was investigated it turned out to be a clip from The Chase 6.

Hmmm... Shame, that, as I would prefer the former over the latter...

How do we know that the Mission lead is connected to the Chase discovery?
