Awhile ago, I read that the only set of telesnaps that are known to have been made of a missing episode that are "lost" are of Marco Polo 4. I was wondering two things: i.) is this correct?; and ii.) have any telesnaps ever surfaced that were previously not thought to have been made?

ethantyler:
You would have to ask someone who has more archival info than me, on the Marco Polo 4 telesnaps. But I believe that you were correct, there was also some censor clips that were removed from Marco Polo, but were sadly lost shortly after. Also I believe that no telesnaps exist at all for Enemy of the World Part 4, the telesnaps on the BBC Cult website are composite telesnaps, from the other episodes, no true telesnaps exist for this episode I believe. For telesnap finds there was the find of telesnaps from Marco Polo. "A complete set of telesnaps for episodes 1-3 and 5-7 were discovered in 2003 in the possession of director Waris Hussein, who returned them to the BBC archives." This was the most recent telesnap find, the telesnaps were featured in several issues of the Doctor Who Magazine. Anything else, do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks,Lance.

Yes. Marco Polo #4 is now the only example where there's documentary evidence that Cura was paid for taking tele-snaps from a currently missing episode, but for which the pictures themselves don't exist.
No, the tele-snaps that exist have followed the paperwork trail pretty faithfully and it really seems that the bulk of Season 3 was never recorded in this way. Having checked with the directors of those stories, none of them have indicated that they ever saw any tele-snaps of their work during John Wiles' producership.

Surely you mean they were lost shortly before [they were discovered]? I remember reading that in another thread. I did know that, but I'd completely forgotten, so I'm glad you've reminded me. Until a few months ago, I had no interest at all in telesnaps. When the Marco Polo telesnaps were discovered, I wasn't at all interested, believe it or not. However, now that the BBC is releasing the telesnaps alongside the soundtracks (Doctor Who Reconstructed), I'm interested! There are a handful of episodes in particular for which I'd love to see the telesnaps, but just can't be bothered looking through manually, including The Wheel in Space 1, The Evil of the Daleks 7, Fury from the Deep 6, The Enemy of the World 6, The Crusade 2, The Crusade 4 and The Savages 1. Edit: I'm currently browsing through some of the telesnaps at BBCi. I didn't realise they had the contact sheet page full of thumbnails, which makes it easier. The Evil of the Daleks 7 looks fantastic!

Thanks for the confirmation. I gather there are some existing episodes for which the telesnaps don't survive, but they're not important. Thank you. I was going to ask if there was any documentary evidence to indicate who might have purchased telesnaps, but you've already answered that indirectly.

^ Ignore the summary totals on that table - they don't add up but I haven't had time to change them...

Cool site that! Since telesnaps exist for War Machines what do you think are the chances of an easter egg recon of the ep3 battle which only exists edited? The recon could use existing footage, unedited soundtracks and telesnaps. what do you think?
Missing telesnaps - edge of destruction 1-2 marco Polo 4 keys of marinus 1-2 sensorites 1-2 planet of giants 1-3 chase 1-6
would the bbc be interested in getting copies of these?

Hello,
I am sure that the BBC would love to get a hold of some copies of telesnaps from Marco Polo 4. As for the rest, I really don't have a clue. All of the other episodes you listed currently exist in the BBC archives, and VHS copies are available to the public. So, If you have copies of telesnaps from Marco Polo 4, then you should definitely contact the Doctor Who Restoration Team. Here is their e-mail address:

Thanks,Lance.
