It's one of a number of pirate prints that were made during the 1980's by someone who "borrowed" the episodes out of the BBC F&VT Archive. Many of the 16mm DW film prints that appear on eBay originate from this source as do the 8mm downprints of the same episodes.

Still, I'm glad that this auction has turned up on several boards. It's good to know that items like this aren't going unnoticed, just in case something more rare or missing turns up someday.

Yeah! but those are all nicely cleaned up and restored for the DVD releases. Invasion however has not been relased and this copy of ebay is one of a number of pirate copies struck from the the BBC'S copies in the 80's. Its gonna have all the same dirt and scratches as the vid release, unless the BBC hold a scatch free copy which I am not aware of.

How do we know for sure that it IS a pirated copy?
It seems that everyone is just making the assumption that it must be without verifying the facts.
Has Richard actually seen this print ? Has he confirmed from the seller that it was a pirated copy ?

Er, I've seen the original 16mm print of "Moonbase 4" and it looks mighty nice even before the restoration for DVD...
While there is a slim chance that the "Invasion" print is not one of the dupes - it's very unlikely that it's another original print. There were probably more prints struck of the dupe than there ever were of the original, and most of the originals were destoryed..... So I think RIchard's assumption is a good one.

Er, I've seen the original 16mm print of "Moonbase 4" and it looks mighty nice even before the restoration for DVD... You miss my point - the original VHS release of The Moonbase: 4 used a crappy viewing print, which was clearly not the best source print. It's therefore reasonable to think that the best print of The Invasion: 6 could be better than what appeared on the VHS release of that story.
