I'm still trying to figure out how The Visitation got picked over the the rest of the Davidson episodes. Is it due to the condition of the tapes? It can't possibly be due to the quality of the story itself. How it beat Castrovalva, Timeflight, or Frontios. I would have expected them to put out an Anthony Ainley Master story as a tribute, but mabye they haven't gotten the time for proper tribute. And why hasn'tThe Deadly Assassin been released yet?

The main criteria for the picking of Dr. Who stories for DVD must also take into account the possibilities for adding extras to the package. For example, the Visitation has raw film footage available and good scope for documentaries and the such like. This is why the Claws of Axos is being released as a 70 minute reel of unedited studio footage is in the BBC archives.

That's interesting to know I thought it had more to do with it not having to be vid-fired and/or re-colorized like a good chunk of the first two Pertwee seasons.

It needed RSC which is also a lot of work, It's the first time the process has been used aswell, so it should be an interesting disc to see.

How much does story importance and popularity count in as a factor in selecting what gets released to dvd? Like I said at the start of the thread, I would have thought TEXTCastrovalvaTEXT or TEXTThe Deadly AssassinTEXT would have been out by now. Or are they going to wait to put out special anniversary editions for the stories' 25th and 30th respective anniveraries?
