Hi Everyone, Which episode of Doctor Who has recently been returned; was it the Daleks masterplan one, or something else......? On another DW note; the BBC have a lot of missing episodes; indeed, missing stories, on audiotape, so why dont they take a leaf out of these high quality "childrens cartoon" that look like computer generated film, and remake the missing episodes? they even have the"telesnaps archive" to go on for "painted backgrounds, actors positions, etc......................and the remade episodes would look as good as the existing ones.................just a thought....................Regards, ianj

Hmmm. This should really should be in the Doctor Who section of the forum, but to answer your questions, the most recent episode recovered was DMP 2, and the reason that the BBC don't do telesnap recontructions of all the missing episodes (that telesnaps exist for) is largely a mixture of complicated artist rights issues and return on the investment even if they did spend the money on resolving the rights issues...because only really hardened fans would pay for a dvd of still pictures.Which isn't enough to make such an idea viable, though they have done such a thing for the odd missing episode in an otherwise extant serial. If you're really keen I gather that fan-made recons are available somewhere out in the mighty net.

I just re-read your post..I see your not just talking about still picture recons, but a lot more work. Well, my previous answer still applies anyway. The costs would be even more prohibitive, and the results questionable. They might as well remake the stories completely, if the demand was there. I am assuming these were serious questions. It's just that things can get a bit odd around here sometimes!

As a Film student this may not be such a bad idea... The Beeb did, I believe, seriously consider remaking the 1960s series, "Adam Adamant Lives!" in 1996.
Perhaps this may be a viable idea for an out of house production company...?
Then again, as the BBC are producing a new series of "Doctor Who", perhaps not?
All I need is a good invester/s, an interested production company and a contract with the BBC... These could be filmed (or VTed) here in New Zealand at minimal cost...
It's not what you know - it's who you know...

Or alternatively you could get your own, watchable, copies direct from the people who made them, instead of having to squint through several different types of picture fuzz.

Yep sorry bout that should have added that too.. for sure get em from the loose cannon page they make the best recons.. but be warned I got 6 or more tapes though there (from thier "dubbing team") and most of the tapes looked very very crappy,, like 6-8th gen copys.. all lo-fi and lots of "hi-fi" pops clicks txed down to the lo-fi tracks.. but again that was 2-3 years ago.. they may have better VCR's now !!! I know they don't want to but i really think the recons should be disributed on DVD 1st and VHS 2nd.. Im thankfull I got mine all from bruce robbinsons masters!!! A word of waring if you want to download them the moonbase is very very bad (multi multi gen) and so is the Macra Terror... im going to download them ( My VHS's of them went walkabout) and replace the downloaded vision with telesnaps from the beeb web page..

I hear the Beeb will be releasing MP3 CDs of the soundtracks for missing episodes along with the surviving telesnaps (in the style of reconstructions).

I saw that on the website www.gallifreyone.com on the december 9th update that the BBC will indeed be releasing reconstructions in early 2005 starting with "Power of the Daleks". Can't wait till that comes out in the stores.

I'll be buying them too, although I can't help feeling that this is another time where fans have been ripped off i.e. now nearly all the soundtracks have been released on CD, they've come up with a new way to keep the range going and to get fans to buy the same products.
Could someone list (or provide a link with a complete list) all the episodes which have existing telesnaps, please? I haven't bought all of the soundtrack CDs yet, so I'm wondering which ones to avoid (because of the MP3 CDs) and which ones are safe to buy (because there aren't any telesnaps for an MP3 release).
