hi, i have a vague memory of a programme from the late 60s i think it was a period mystery series on itv, the titles appeared over a head and shoulders bust which revolved in i think a library (possibly medical), the theme tune was very catchy (something like"dum, dum, diddle, diddle, dum, dum ,then repeated) i think it was shown on itv in the afternoons in the 70s in b/w, i'd love to know the title/archive status thanks.....

It was probably Edgar Wallace's bust and the series was listed in various regions as ' Tales of Edgar Wallace ' 'Mysteries of Edgar Wallace' etc etc ie whatever they fancied at the time. The theme tune started as a slow stringy number and got more 'groovy' guitar twangy as the series progressed.

The later theme tune was 'Man Of Mystery' by The Shadows.

It was indeed Man of Mystery by The Shadows, but a very different recording from the one with which they reached the Top 10. The hit version was fast and pacy, whereas the version used for Edgar Wallace was very slow and 'mysterious'. Of course ...

ahhhh... but some installments did have a faster "Shadows" - like twangy guitar version.

I'm fairly sure that the version of "man of mystery" used on the tv series was by the tornados although it was also later recorded by the shadows
