Does anyone know why there aren't commentarys on all 18 episodes and why not all surviving clips weren't included? The Galaxy 4 clip wasn't included (inside the Draavan ship), the Frazer Hynes home movie footage wasn't either (on location), nor was the Faceless Ones model footage (the camelon ship), nor the Evil of the Daleks model footage (Dalek in the city ruins) and neither was the Dalek city lights from Master Plan (with Chen's ship on the pad). Cheers.

The reason there aren't commentaries on all episodes was lack of money - and it was felt that increasing the budget might result in making the set too expensive for customers.
The Galaxy 4 clip is in the "Missing Years" documentary - it wasn't presented on it's own simply because they forgot!
I think the Frazer Hines home movie footage was omitted because they couldn't reach him in time.
Don't know about the other clips, but maybe they couldn't be located in time for the release.

Commentaries - true. There could have been commentaries on all 18 episodes if you'd had to pay £50 for the set. Galaxy 4 clip - because they forgot? Rubbish. They thought it was pointless duplication of a clip that is quite long on a disc that was full. Including it twice to assuage the Aspergic whims of some fans would only have caused the bitrate (and therefore picture quality) on the episodes to be reduced. Frazer Hines movie - well, it's his, not the BBC's. Maybe he asked too much for its use. Maybe he couldn't find it again. Maybe he was on a theatre tour and couldn't arrange to access it. Who knows? Faceless Ones model footage - doesn't exist. You might as well ask why the behind the scenes footage of the Hartnell/Troughton regeneration isn't there. Evil footage - it's there in "The Last Dalek". Unless you mean the 2 seconds or so of Michealjohn Harris' film - in which case I don't think the actual film itself was available. Dalek city light - it's just some lights and makes no sense outside of the (missing) episode. Mavic Chen's ship doesn't appear on it.

Thanks a bunch. It is possible to correct someone without implying that they're a total idiot you know.

Frazer was simply very, very busy at the time that the set was being put together (on a touring play as far as I recall), so he simply wasn't at home that much to dig the footage out. He doesn't appear on the commentaries for the same reason. Richard

I apreciate the responses and to answer your questions - the Faceless Ones footage does exist and is several seconds worth of model footage showing the chamelon ship and the Evil footage also exists and is about is also several seconds of model footage although it may not of been used in the final episode as most of it features a man's hand messing with the Dalek. Plus, about the Dalek city lights, if it wasn't good enough to be included then why was the smoke overlay included which is much longer and even less interested?

A couple of years back a mate showed me a load of Dr Who rare footage which is where I saw it and also the other clips I mentioned like the Dalek city lights. It's nothing much just several seconds of the belly of a plane and the wings folding up and a shot of a cake tin mothership.

In fairness this footage does exist and has unofficially existed for some time. Someone did try to return it awhile back but was accused of hoaxing and didn't know what else to do.

In fairness this footage does exist and has unofficially existed for some time. Someone did try to return it awhile back but was accused of hoaxing and didn't know what else to do. It's quite simple. If anyone actually has anything like this and wants to return it then they can contact me directly. I or Steve would only borrow to copy the original unless the collector wants to donate the original. We can arrange it in such a way that the collector has their original back before anything is even announced. Check out the Restoration Team website front page where there is a contact e-mail address or reply here. Many thanks, Paul
