This very special Doctor Who release features available episodes and rare footage from 18 black & white episodes where the complete story is no longer in the BBC archives. Including the newly discovered episode 'The Daleks' Masterplan' in addition to a further Dalek adventure, two Cyberman stories plus both the Yeti escapades, this release is a must-have purchase for all Whovians! Disc 1: 'The Crusade' episodes One and Three (with commentary by Julian Glover and Gary Russell), 'The Daleks¿ Master Plan' episode Two (with commentary by Peter Purves, Kevin Stoney and Ray Cusick), Five and Ten. Audio only: 'The Celestial Toymaker' episodes Two and Four, 'The Crusade' episodes Two and Four. Disc 2: 'The Underwater Menace' episode Three, 'The Moonbase' episodes Two and Four, 'The Faceless Ones' episodes One and Three, 'The Evil of the Daleks' episode Two (with commentary by Deborah Watling and Gary Russell). Disc 3: 'The Abominable Snowmen' episode Two (with commentary by Deborah Watling and Gary Russell), 'The Enemy of the World' episode Three, 'The Web of Fear' episode One (with commentary by Deborah Watling, Derrick Sherwin and Gary Russell), 'The Wheel in Space' episodes Three and Six (with commentary by Derrick Sherwin and Tristan deVere Cole), The Space Pirates episode Two. Thanks to Mark for doing this up.
I recieved my copy last week. And was truly amazed at what the Restoration team offered to us fellow fans. I orginally had Tom Bakers' Pyramids Of Mars & The Talons Of Weng Chiang as my Nos 1 & 2, but after seeing the first episode of The Web Of Fear (and reading the target novel nearly 20 yrs ago) this now goes to number 1. Using VIDfire for the episodes was masterstroke of Brilliantce as the clarity of picture of the alreadly cleaned episodes is further enhanced.
A must get even if you have the VHSs of other recovered eipsodes, The Lion and The Day Of Amaraggedon are alone worth it alone.

Probably the best Doctor Who release ever (including future releases!). 90% perfect - only thing that could make it better is more money and time... and narrated soundtracks.

and the reign of terror episodes. I'd prefer "Reign", The Tenth Planet, The Ice Warriors and The Invasion to get their own release, to be honest. I also preferred The Crusade and The Moonbase to get their own releases... By the way, I've had a change of heart about narrated soundtracks - I prefer them without the narration (on the DVD), but would have liked the soundtracks for all of the stories represented on the release. The only other minor criticisms that I have are minor things such as the Galaxy 4 clip not being included outside of The Missing Years and some other footage which didn't make it. None of this was the RT's fault and the release is the best to-date (and probably ever) afterall.

Just seen the Hartnell disc and was impressed by the quality of "Day of Armageddon". Visually very slick, clean picture. The look of "Counterplot" and "Escape Switch" are markedly different.
I wonder if this was down to the Restoration Team's efforts or due to this episode being looked after by someone who knows how to care for film?

I finally scraped together enough money this month (what with it being my birthday shortly) to order Lost in Time. It's already been posted from Play and I can't wait! I haven't ever seen four of the episodes - Day of Armageddon; The Faceless Ones 1 and 3; and The Web of Fear 1. ;D

I gather that The Reign of Terror, The Tenth Planet, The Ice Warriors and The Invasion will be released individually... which is great.

I'm slightly happy ;D bound to be some extras to bulk them out then. Except The Invasion, which will probably be confined to one disc and thus only forty-five minutes of bonus material is possible. Hopefully we'll get a Then and Now feature. Whilst I love Lost in Time (in theory, I haven't actually watched it yet), I can't help feeling we're lost out on some potentially great special features. Might have been better if they had been released as volumes (i.e. Lost in Time: Volume 1), so we could have had complete commentaries and special features. However, I can see that's only a fanboy desire and not commerically viable. I just hope that, at the very least, Inside the Spaceship (as part of In the Beginning) has a Marco Polo feature.

Having now seen Lost in Time, I am pleased by the overall release, specifically the restoration of certain episodes - The Moonbase 2 and 4 stand out as particularly exceptional. However, some of the restoration of The Faceless Ones 3 was appalling - those fuzzy close-ups, which are enough to induce an epileptic fit, for example!

...some of the restoration of The Faceless Ones 3 was appalling - those fuzzy close-ups ... for example! That was to cover up the missing frames in that episode. The close-ups wouldn't have been there at all in the original version - and may even be from a different part of the episode for all I know.

To be honest, I preferred the jumps, which at least had charm. The restoration work on the rest of the episode is stunning, however. The first sixteen minutes are excellent, but then those close-ups become more frequent and distracting.
