Hi all, I have a number of reel to reel tapes which my dad recorded years ago I assume from Radio 4. I know for sure there are 2 shows. The Al Jolson Story and The Frank Sinatra Story. I think that they were either taped late 60's or early 70's. I don't know if these exist in the BBC archive or not. I did contact the Treasure Hunt but never had a reply. I would think that they were maybe half hour shows as the tapes are on a 7" reel.
Any info would be greatly informative as to what I do with them.
Thanks
Alan

I forgot that R2 did loads of stuff like that! Unfortunately I only have a steam driven reel to reel recorder and have no idea how to 'doctor' it. I have it on my list to find a newer machine with the ability. I have a big box of reel to reel stuff. Mostly family stuff I would have thought.

Hi I have part two from a 3 part series about Al Jolson. I'd LOVE to get the other parts for a good friend who is a Jolson fan. The Sinatra series I wouldn't be interested in personally, but it would be very worthwhile to see if it exists.
Any details as to presenter? My Jolson one is presented by Max Bygraves.
I could transfer for you and return the reels. Thanks, RTH.

Sorry- didn't read your post properly! I would transfer for you, no problems. I have a great quality deck. Any drama amongst the stuff?
Thanks, Richard.

Hi Richard, Thanks for the offer. The majority of my stuff is in another place to where I live - owning another flat is useful when you run out of space - and when I'm there next I'll dig out the tapes and let you know. I'm not too concerned about having copies for myself but rather they were preserved somewhere. Of all the tapes there I know of these two biographies, an episode of Stingray I recorded when I was a kid and one Goon Show 'The Secret of the Marie Celeste....Solved!' and a tape of my brother dating to approx 1959. Everything else is an unknown quantity.

Do you have any Pick Of The Pops with Alan Freeman or David Jacobs.

The on-line BBC catalogue notes a programme called 'The Jolson Touch' broadcast on 19/10/1970, written and narrated by Michael Freedland; otherwise they refer to a series called 'I Call It Style' which featured Frank Sinatra on 12/01/1982 and Al Jolson on 15/03/1983. Nothing else obvious! Stuart

No idea about PotP. As I said, apart from the shows listed I have no idea. It could well be the Jolson thing you spoke about SumyMan but certainly not the ones from '83 as my dad had already been dead for 7 years. Let me get all the tapes and have a listen and then we'll all know. Won't be able to get them for a couple of weeks though.
