Does anyone know if there are any missing editions of The Goon Show? I've come across a collection of off-airs on open reel and thought I'd ask before I bother trawling through and identify them.
Any help would be great.

If It's any help there is a listing of all episodes here www.thegoonshow.net/shows.aspThe Goon Show Preservation society i'm sure would also be another place for info at www.thegoonshow.org.uk/Whatever you do find - (if they are good quality) even if they exist might be useful as so many only survive in cut transcription service versions - however if they are from the 1970's "Pick of the Goons" repeats they are not unfortunatly of any use. If you manage to work out what you've got let me know and i'll put you in touch with Keith Wickham a guy who is restoring all existing shows for the GSPS and is also a big provider of material to Ted Kendal for the CD Releases. Thanks for all the info.
Thankfully these are all off-airs from around 1960-64. Each one is followed by the chimes of Big Ben for the Home Service 10 o'clock news.
The original owner must have been a big Goons fan. There are a lot of Telegoons episodes recorded from BBC tv complete with the announcer beforehand. From memory, nothing spectacular, but announcements along the lines of "This is BBC Television, it's quarter past five and time for the Telegoons." They're just nice to hear for the nostalgia value. I understand The Telegoons exists in full anyway.
I did a quick check on a Spike Milligan show which I've also discovered called 'The Omar Khayyan Show.' As I understand it, the BBC only have episode 4 of this series. One of these tapes features episodes 2, 3 and 4 complete with the announcer at the top and tail.
As soon as I trawl through the Goon Shows I'll post the details here. Thanks again.

Hi there,
6 shows exist (which I think was the whole series) Interestingly the only two shows that exist in something other than broadcast quality are shows 2 and 3 - So if your tapes are Good quality this is definitely a good find to start off with.
Were the show on the tapes you have from an FM source?

Hi there, at first glance it seems better (but i would have to hear an unprocessed copy to be certain - the clip seems a little over processed for my tastes. This link is for the same section from the only other know existing recording quick.dropfiles.net/download.php?file=17796a07f2efbb438f56951f8767a4f2Could you post a raw unprocessed copy for me to compare - (Perhaps we should take this off list. I am now a member of this group so my e-mail address should be temporaryily available to you) Richard

Hi Richard, The clip I have is heavily processed to remove a nasty humming sound, but it could be quite easily reprocessed with a lower setting. I'll try and get an unprocessed clip to you. Sadly when I mastered these episodes up, I broke the first rule of remastering, to keep an unprocessed copy. It'll mean running the tape again, but what I'll do is take some samples off each episode completely clean so you can hear the source material. I tried to get your email address from the link but it was hidden. If you contact me on zapitover at hotmail dot com, I'll pass you my private email address instead of the aforementioned spam repository
