a very good source of info for holmes radio is hugo brown's site at www.hbcomputing.demon.co.uk.

the bbc holmes shows from '59 and after (except for 5 missing ones) have i'd say one of the largest circulations of any bbc radio drama series of the 60's, and circulate on a ton of mp3's with overlapping contents. partly because they were syndicated abroad in the 70's and these were recorded at home by people. if not all of these are in the beeb archive, it would be easy for the bbc to obtain these recordings. the pre-1945 usa holmes shows you mention were commercially issued in the 70's and widely available since then, the 1945 and 46 shows issued to stores from pristine recordings in the 80's and 90's. the mid-50's shows with gielgud were syndicated by harry alan towers and have all been commercially available for a long time, including the unbroadcast yoxley case as i recall.
